Marshall 30th Anniversary - Help with Valves
Hey Hey,
I'm lucky enough to own the awesome 30th , She's been heavily gigged over the last 10 years and I've all but worn out the four 5881's, basically my question is.. I'm looking at replacing them but i'm not sure what to replace them with, are sovtek 6L6WXT+ matched quads compatible and will they change the sound of the amp?? I'm not realy a tech head, I'm a player soo you'll have to excuse my lack of knowledge also whilst i'm asking anyone know were to get the two replacement fuse's in the back of the amp from? I think there T500's I can't get them anywhere. this is my baby.....shes permantly on ebay, I dont wanna sell her but I do want a mesa ![]() http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...STRK:MESELX:IT ta

Re: Marshall 30th Anniversary - Help with Valves
Im not surprised at that price. you would be lucky to get that much for the limited edition brass logo version but not the white logo version that you have.
realistically you are looking at about 650 for the head and about 250 each for the cabs (pound sterling). |

In terms of what valves to put in, I'd recommend either converting it to use EL34s or using JJ6L6GCs. If you want a shitload more gain, you could have the lead channel modified to the 6100LM specs (just a couple of resistors IIRC). Whatever you do, getting some decent valves in there in place of those horrible (IMO) Sovtek pseudo-5881s should make you re-think the idea of getting a Mesa. |

Re: Marshall 30th Anniversary - Help with Valves
Seems odd that you have 5881's in your amp as these earlier blue tolex heads were fitted with & set up for el34's when new.
Fuses on ebay...10 x 500ma, T/D slow blow glass fuse 20mm x 5mm,T500ma on eBay (end time 12-Dec-09 06:56:17 GMT) I'd have to agree with george76, at the price your asking your not gonna sell it & from what i've seen on ebay recently you'd be doing well to get a grand for the full stack in that condition. |
