Check those Marshall 1960A Input Solder Joints!
I forgot to add this little bit of info in my last post in where I was trying to diagnose a problem with one of my heads...
Since the problem I was experiencing initially lead me to believe I was experiencing a ground/connection issue, I checked every cable including the wiring of my cabinet.. In the process I discovered that TWO pins soldered to the input stereo/mono jack/plate on the back of my 1960A cabinet were loose! I could move two of them a mm or so forward and back with respect to the PC board that they were soldered to...Close inspection (under a magnifying glass)revealed that the pins actuall came free from the solder that held them in place to the board if pushed upon.. I quickly applied some fresh solder to all four pins..and ensured they didn't move anymore.. You know..Marshall, as you guys probably know, is starting to drift in their QC issues to the worst. This cabinet is like 5 years old, I bought it new and take care of it..and I remember when I first got it after a month or so I had to remove the back and tighten all of the speakers down as they were loose and rattling..(thought I blew a speaker). Then, not one, but BOTH plastic carrying handles cracked out along their mounting flanges and had to replace both handles.. And now this...not to mention that the plastic mounting plate the jacks are mounted to are cracking as well! I remember the older 800 stuff and before...build quality was far superior..

Thats disappointing! It used to be a given that a Marshall would be constructed well.

Re: Check those Marshall 1960A Input Solder Joints!
I've had a good run with '02 1960AV quad. Apart from the plastic handle flange cracking as per Adrian's post. But in the end it's not built as well as the Mesa Traditional quad I have sitting next to it.

I agree that they slack total ass in the overall components of the Marshall cabinet, plastic handles, plastic sockets for the wheels, shotty mono/stereo switches, plastic wheel wells. The construction of the wood and how that's put together is good, they sound great. The plastic bullshit needs to go. They should also put a little midget inside each cabinet, and when any stupid ass kid tries to plug into the Stereo input the midget comes out and smacks the dumbass on the forehead. "What are you doing kid? You only have one amplifier?!?!?! Did your parents have any children that lived?" Too bad manuals have never been read by anyone younger than 30 in the history of the Marshall company.
