My first was a Marshall MG30DFX...great for beginners...poopy for anything else.

My current amp is a 1982 Marshall JCM800 4210 50watt combo (same as yours konrad gibson!)

Re: Your first Marshall amp

My First Marshall was a RED 73 100 Watt Super Lead

Here is another photo of it in full stack(the bass amp next to it
is also a Marshall bass amp twin 15" reverse horn cabs)
Yes i played bass through Marshall lead heads, i use them for the treble
side, using Y chord to a bass head for low end (for that Yes and Entwistle sound)

later on in my band life i switched back to lead guitar from bass

Re: Your first Marshall amp

'68 Marshall Major
LOUD - no, LOUDER than that...
Louder than an early 70s steel panel Super Lead
Amazingly, to be so loud - very sensitive when turned up.
It had a (monsterous) tone unlike any other amp.
It also had an appetite for Celestion speakers.....

Re: Your first Marshall amp

Ritchie Blackmore used Majors, i played bass through
one once it was as loud as an SVT and i can imagine
it would blow out celestions big time

Re: Your first Marshall amp

Had a VS100 R combo for about 12 years. Thought it was great at bedroom levels, even better when cranked a bit and had a good variety of channels.
Have now sold it and graduated to a JTM 45 with a 1960ax cab. No pedals, no channels, no fx, just a clean channel of pure tonal bliss and an overdrive crunch when cranked that almost brings a tear to my eye..beautiful

Re: Your first Marshall amp

My first amp ever was a marshall, it was a G215RCD and it was enough to put me off marshalls for years. It was only when i realised it was only crap for the type of music i wanted to play. I still have it, somewhere in the depths of this house

Re: Your first Marshall amp

My first Marshall is my only Marshall and I just got it a few weeks ago. A JCM 2000 DSL 100 with a 1960 cab. I *love* this amp!! Been playing through little PTP wired ancient class A tube amps and had a real attitude about modern PCB amps. This Marshall is the most flexible amp I've ever played.

Re: Your first Marshall amp

My first Marshall was a birthday present from my grandmother on my 15th birthday, way back in 2000.

The Marshall G10 MK.II. There's a story behind the tear in the covering there on the corner, but you'll have to go to the '"My first amp" story' thread to see it, saves me from posting it twice.

Re: Your first Marshall amp

My first Marshall was a new 1985 5212 after coming from a Peavey Studio Pro 40. A few short years later (in 1989), I picked up a 9-month old, barely used, 4203 combo from a guy hurting for money around Christmas for $200.....I then picked up a new 1965A cabinet as a scratch-n-dent special....and it just snowballed from there.

Re: Your first Marshall amp

My first one was a VS 8280. Had it for years.
During that time I started experimenting with mfx units.
Currently I'm using an 8008 as a poweramp in my rack setup.
Wished there where midi switchable Marshall amps years before
they finally where introduced. I probably would have gotten myself a 30th aniversary or the like and stuck with it.

Re: Your first Marshall amp

My 1st amp purchased in the early 70's, was a Marshall 1959 superlead built in 1971.

I've still got it and wouldn't part with it.

My first Marshall was a birthday present from my wife...a Marshall MG15MSII Micro Stack. I just love that thing. Everyone should have a Micro Stack.

Re: Your first Marshall amp

My first Marshall was a JCM 900 series half stack I bought on Ebay from a local guy. It started doing some crazy things on the clean channel so I replaced it with a AVT 50 head. Then I bought a combo version of the AVT 50. Later on while I was working in Phoenix AZ I traded the AVT 50 Combo for a DSL 401 and added a modified Hartke cab with Eminence Legend speakers. Here a pic of it now.~!!!!

Re: Your first Marshall amp

I just got my first Marshall amp yesterday... I was looking for an AVT50 combo but couldn't find one, so I picked up an AVT100 1x12 combo off ebay for just over $200.00 (plus shipping). I've just started "dialing it in" for my preferred tone, but so far it sounds pretty dang good for a hybrid. I especially like the tone from overdriving the clean channel. The two "OD" channels are screamers, but not exactly a fit for my southern rock/blues style. Maybe I will find a sweet-spot in the OD1/2 after I get more familiar with the settings (it was just delivered last night). The built-in effects don't do much for me but I'm more "plug-in-and-play" anyway. Before this, I have used Peavey, Ampeg, Vox, and various other "no-name" amps.
Anyway, it is a thrill to finally play my Gibson LP through a Marshall amp!!!

Re: Your first Marshall amp

My first Marshall is my current Marshall. I watched all my friends buy practice amps, then combo amps, then half-stacks. I figured I'd skip all the middle steps and buy my TSL100.

Re: Your first Marshall amp

My first was valvestate 8100 with 8412 & VS412 cabs, and those I had about 15years, but last month I suddenly traded those into JCM-900 4100 and JCM-900 cabs... I´m not 100% sure that I made The right move... JCM´s have been a big disapointment so far. Now The head is at a workshop...

Sorry about that. I'm very happy with my VS that it's the very reason I don't want to change. It's that good.
Well, you can still sell you JCM and get back to VS.

Re: Your first Marshall amp

Always an enticing question, 'ampshopping'... It's a subject close to everyone's heart....

I remember my first with a heavy but loving heart as 'the one that got away'--my '69 SuperLead 100.... Sold it during a down period...I'm sure others have had THOSE....

BUT---and that's a BIG but---I recently bought another head, and got as a gift a cab: 2000 DSL 50 w 1960A 4x12 cab...I've been out of the loop for a while, using Fenders(I love the VibroKing, pictured with my DSL) so I can't compare with the others mentioned throughout these forums, but I can say that this thing is MY FRIEND FOREVER....

A friend who had an 800 or 900 2203 or 2205? said he likes mine "way better". One of his channels was solid state and he never used it....He always borrowed my Super 100 for recording...

All I know so far is: I LOVE THIS AMP.... The tone is awesome, beautiful, killer, sweet, gigantic, very useable in a bedroom, but SCREAMIN out in the open of a studio or stage....Truth is, I bought it because Jeff Beck uses them, but it blows air like God afartin...

(Yes, I know everything is backwards in the pic--sorry!-- It's the camera in my MacBook....)

Yep. But I just got my JCM´s back, and it´s a freakin shredmachine now... There was a mess inside of that beautifull head, but right medication at a right doctor will fix everything... But I give all my gredits to valvestate/VS boost channel, the contour is magnificent...

My first amp was a VS30R. It was ok for a while, but I wanted something louder and with tubes, so I sold it and got a DSL 401 which I still have.
