Marshall 9200 Volume Problem

The volume fades, on my Marshall power amp, just started. It can be fine at first, but then starts to fades out or go half volume or near zero. It does it on both sides and that puzzles me as I'm thinking power tubes but why would both sides fade. Also I opened it up and it's loaded with 6L6 tube but it has a label that says something about this amp is fitted with 5881 tubes (got it used).........can you just stick any tubes in it???

Thanks

Hmmm, if both sides are doing it, that's pretty strange. The "monobloc" design means that both sides are completely independent from each other. Could there be an issue with the power cable or the supply? As far as I know, that's the only thing common to both sides.

6L6's and 5881's are interchangeable, not all tubes are. The 9200 came with 5881's from the factory, the previous owner must have changed them to 6L6's, no problem.

Does that mean I could load 5881 on one side and 6L6's on the other???

I pulled it out of the rack and had it on for a few hours last night with no volume drop so...........I don't know what's going on. I used the same cables. as before.

I have band practice tomorrow and I'll try it out again then.

Thanks

....
Yup, the 9200 is two completely separate power amps in one chassis.
You gotta check/adjust the bias though when you change power tubes, even the same type of tubes.
