Re: Marshall 1923 Anniversary Amp
Sup. I hear that it's based on the JCM2000 DSL. I'd be interested in doing a side-by-side comparison between this and the DSL and listen for comare and contrast.

Re: Marshall 1923 Anniversary Amp
I recall reading the specs on this amp a little while ago, and apart from the British flag and 85 graphics, it *is* a JCM 2000 DSL50 head. That is a good thing sound-wise, but the anniversary edition is quite a bit more expensive than a DSL50. The DSL50 is not available new in the states but some sites have NOS available at around $1299. The model 1923 85th anniversary head is still available new in music stores at around $1899. The JCM 2000 DSL100MLB (100 watt) package deal is going for $1299, along with a MC412 cab. IMO unless you are a collector the model 1923 isn't worth the price.

Re: Marshall 1923 Anniversary Amp
One place over here let two of these heads go for $1450AU! I missed out & was crushed...
Personally I really like the Union Jack graphic on the panel.

Re: Marshall 1923 Anniversary Amp
As others have said it is a DSL 50, but with different wood to the head box, I am not sure the difference in wood will make any difference sound wise.
If you are looking for one of these and you are in the UK or are happy to ship the cheapest I have found in the UK were: GAK 50 watt head £699 - less than a DSL and another store that had an ex demo head at £629 - if anyone is interested I will try to find where that was. The reason I know this is? I was also looking for one, but I went for a second hand 2061x instead for £680 with another brand cab included. I do not work or have association with either shop. |

Re: Marshall 1923 Anniversary Amp
Just to clarify, I wasn't speaking badly about the 1923 85th anniversary amp. If the pricing on this model is better in the UK that's great. In the states, the way they have it priced it seems like one can get better bang for the buck just purchasing a DSL50 (NOS or used) if that is the sound they're after. Wouldn't make much sense for me since I already have a DSL100, although I will agree that the extra graphics on the 1923 are pretty cool. I've been looking at a 2203KK lately...

Re: Marshall 1923 Anniversary Amp
I have one.
Yes it's pretty much like a DSL ... I got a good deal on it new so even though I could have a gotten a regular DSL a little bit cheaper I went for it ... A special crafted wooden head box ... a booklet ... soft cover ... a unique look ... hey whats not to like
