Re: Marshall JCM600?
Well I can't say I've ever heard one but I would've thought they discontinued them for a reason. Maybe just a general lacking in sound? Dunno.

![]() SwampAsh, a friend of mine has a 600 and he loves it. A couple of years ago we both thought it sounded pretty good, but since getting new tubes and filter caps, he absolutely loves it. But as with anything, if you're thinking of buying it, try it out first. Each amp is different, especially since marshall had a habit of changing components according to whatever they had on hand at the time.

Re: Marshall JCM600?
I know a little about these, a local guitar shop has a head for sale and its pretty cheap and I'm tempted to buy it. They're called 600's cos they are all 60 watts. They made 3 models, a head, a 1 X 12 combo and a 2 x 12 combo. I believe they were made sometime in the late 90's for a short period. Heres the info from Marshall website:
Valve power from 2x Svetlana EL34 power valves and 4x ECC83 [12 AX7] pre-amp valves. Two totally independent channels 'Clean' and 'Overdrive'. Separate Treble, Middle and Bass controls for each channel. Separate Reverb controls for each channel Master Presence control on the rear panel. Series and Parallel Effects Loops with front panel rotary Mix control for the Parallel Loop. XLR D.I. output with Marshall Speaker Emulation I'd be tempted to check them out cos they seem o have slipped under the radar

Re: Marshall JCM600?
This is basically the same as the JTM 60 series amps, right? Very good sounding amps, but discontinued because of some issues with over-heating as I've understood it. I've got a JTM 612 combo myself and it sounds amazing. I've mounted a cooloing fan in the chassis though.

Re: Marshall JCM600?
I had a JTM 60 1x12 for years. I bought it new at Sam Ash in like 97. The first couple I took home were DOA. The third had to be repaired under warranty. After that, it lasted 10 years of heavy use until the trannies failed. I eventually traded it for a flight case. The new owner replaced the trannies and he's happy.
It had a good clean channel with its own EQ & master - got nice and crunchy when you cranked it. The lead channel was buzzy at low volumes, but once the master was up, it sounded really punchy and full. It had a lot of gain on tap - think 900 DR. I really dug this amp. It was a budget amp - you have to remember that. It was like $400-$500 in 1997. The tubes were mounted horizontally - i.e. not hanging down. This probably contributed to the overheating issues. I always kept mine away from the wall to get some air circulation through there. |

If the trannies fail, I'd recommend the Mercury Magnetics replacements. The JTM30 and JTM60 transformers were very underrated for their use in those amps. |
