DSL 50/100 EQ Settings

You got to admit, this amp can sound very harsh if not EQ'd properly.
My fav settings:
Ultra Gain 1 (ch2 button out)
pres 1 (cutting this way back takes alot of ice pick highs out)
treb 5 ( sometimes back this off more depending on which cab)
mid 6
bass 6 (this setting varies a little depending on cab and room)
rev 3
no tone shift
no bass boost
gain 6
master 4 minimum ( any lower than 4 your not getting the true sound of this amp...

Re: DSL 50/100 EQ Settings

That's close to my Ultra channel settings. I usually use a little less treble, a little more presence, and no reverb with the gain on 4. With the classic channel on clean or crunch, I usually set the TMB controls to 6-10-8. My only real complaint about my DSL is the shared EQ. Sometimes I compromise between the two settings and use the tone and volume controls on my LP to tweak the sound.

Re: DSL 50/100 EQ Settings

I think this has been mentioned before somewhere, but I've slowly begun to stop thinking of my DSL 50 as a channel switching amp, rather, as an amp that has 3 different (and all with their unique charm) voices (I never use Lead 2 on Ultra Gain).

As such, as I use the volume on my guitar (or a compressor pedal set with a low output) to obtain a cleaner/lower gain sound if I want to do so mid song whilst on the Ultra channel as opposed to switching to the classic channel. This is the way that I personally get the best out of it and it elimates the "problem" on a shared EQ. I do use the Classic channel a lot when playing on my own, and do have to change EQ settings from when using the Ultra channel, but for my band the Ultra channel (lead 1) has the muscle I crave from a Marshall.

Just my 2 cents.

I tend to have the treble on 4/5, mids on 7/8, Bass on 5. The presence I adjust to where I'm playing (low at home, higher with the band). I use Harma 12AX7s as preamp valves, and Tung Sol EL34B power valves.

Re: DSL 50/100 EQ Settings

When I'm alone I use less presence, like on 1-2 and bass on 10. With the band: Pres: 4-5, Treble 5, Mid 10, bass 6-7. Ultra I have gain half way up and no tone shift. Green I have the crunch on and gain on 10. Deep button always on. Note I'm playing through G12H 80's which are loud and clean.

Re: DSL 50/100 EQ Settings

I use the Ultra Gain channel, Lead I for Strats with Seymour Duncan Humbuckers and Lead II for Strats with single coils.

Presence: 7
Bass: 3 - 4
Mid: 4 - 5
Treble: 2
Gain: 8

Deep and tone shift switches aren't engaged.

For clean sounds, I use the Crunch setting on the Classic Gain channel with gain low and master turned up. The EQ works well between both channels that way: I quite like my clean sounds to have a bit of edge to them and using the Clean mode means that the EQ settings don't match at all.

I agree that the amp only really comes to life with the volume on four or above. When I was practising at home with it, I used Lead II all the time to beef up the sound at lower volumes with less mids and a touch more presence and bass. It sounded nice like that but doesn't compare to running the amp on four +.

Re: DSL 50/100 EQ Settings

I mainly use the Green channel in Crunch mode (gain on about 7) with an overdrive pedal if I need a little more balls. While the red channel sounds great, it seems like all the ass drops out of the sound when you switch channels. So I guess you could say I'm using it more like a single channel 800. I'll roll off the guitar's volume for clean sounds with just a little hair on em.

I tend to keep the EQ right around 5 for everything. I rarely use the bass boost and never use the mid scoop.

+1,000,000 on this, my thoughts exactly.
