Smile Jvm410h vs 2203kk

Hey folks, new member here.

I own a Marshall JVM410H and over the years of amp whoring, it has become hands down the best amp I've ever owned.

Lately, I've gotten a really nasty itch for a 2203KK and I can't seem to get over it.

A few people have been telling me that they're both very similar and it's not worth owning both of them.

I was hoping maybe someone with experience or someone who has owned both amps, could lead me in the right direction.

Do these amps sound different enough to justify owning both?

I use my JVM for modern metal tones and I was hoping to use the KK for thrashy tones.

I used to have a JVM410H but sold it. I have a JCM800 2203X and have tried the KK at a music store. In my opinion the JVM doesn't sound anything like a KK. The JVM has tons more features and you can get good metal tones out of it but the KK delivers a punch & roar that the JVM in no way can replicate. The JCM800 is my favorite amp as the tone & crunch is fairly unique and there is no other Marshall that can duplicate that particular sound. The KK is like a JCM800 on steroids as it delivers even more beastly punch.

Now go on and satisfy your craving ....

Steelhorse do you work for Bernie?

I'm a huge fan of BRJ guitars and have 2 currently on order.

Re: Jvm410h vs 2203kk

I think you'd have to be nuts to buy the KK for it's cleans, I know I didn't but it does cleans as well as any other 1 channel 800 imo. Big head room because of the KT88's, but I roll my volume off and switch pickups and it smooths it out well enough.

The JVM definitely has the better cleans by far but it's gain is not nearly as pronounced it's more of a compressed high gain.

Re: Jvm410h vs 2203kk

good preamp tubes will help! stock ones are kinda dark and not that great. I have a RFT in the v1, great metal with a les paul and fender like cleans with the compressor on and a fender strat. there both awsome amps!

Re: Jvm410h vs 2203kk

My JVM is the perfect amp for me so I'm not looking for a replacement.

I'd like to use the 2203KK for more thrash/vintage metal tones.

My JVM does modern tones really well.

Re: Jvm410h vs 2203kk

Sup. Yeah, I know what you are saying about the JVM. I'll say that the higher gain stages of the 410 reflect a scooped mids tone by design, OD2 more than OD1. I think that is one aspect that makes the high gain tones of the 410 different from the KK800. I personally do not like that scooped mids sound, so I boost the mids on OD1 and OD2 with the 410's own eq. Additionally, I use pickups that are well balanced, so that helps to even things out. One thing I love about the KK800 is the noise gate. I wish the JVM had it's own onboard noise gate and would not mind seeing a new version of the 410 featuring the KK800's noise gate. Being a single-channel amp, the KK800 would be great for recording, but be difficult to incorporate into a live setting since I use many tones within the songs I write.

I think that KK800 would be a great purchase should you decide to get one.

Re: Jvm410h vs 2203kk

I never tried a 2203KK, but I can imagine what tones it can do (obviously Slayer).
Well personally I don't like that music at all, but I can say this:
- if u play very aggressive metal only, the KK is for you
- if want a good grinding metal sound, but also fantastic tones for softer rock music, the JVM is for you (and for me too, I'd like to have one to put together with my AC30CC2X ^^)
Hope it helps...

Based on what you play, Alex. I think the KK would suit you well. If you dont need uber versatility.
