you have to check the 100dfx speaker for the ohm value of it so you can set the right impedance on the orange, as far as i remember the 100dfx has an 8 ohm speaker, and then you will be ok using it

Re: using marshall 100dfx as cabinet?
Sure you can use a combo amp as a main or extesion speaker cabinet.
Just make sure, as was mentioned, that if you're using a tube head, that the ohms of the combo's speaker match the head you're using. Also, remember to NOT accidentally switch on the combo! If it's a tube combo and has no load, you'll ruin it. If it's still connected to it's speaker, the extra output could ruin one or both amps. If you're going to do this, make sure you disconnect the combo's speaker from it's onboard amp somehow, (not all combos have an output jack, some are hardwired directly to the speaker) and then dont even plug in the power cord. |

Re: using marshall 100dfx as cabinet?
mmm something came to my mind, not trying to insult your intelligence here, do not connect the orange head to the socket on the MG100 DFX, i have not seen the back of a 100DFX combo, but the amnual shows the socket, there should be a cable going from the speaker into that socket, that cable is the one you connect to the orange amp, and the manual says the internal speaker of the 100dfx combo is a 4 ohm speaker so you have to use a 4 ohm socket/setting on the orange rocker
just read the rocker 30 manual, the amp can only hadle either an 8 or 16 ohm load so you should not use your 4 ohm MG100dfx speaker. if you still want to check open the MG and double check the MG internal speaker impedance |

You mean the output...head-to-head? Actually, thats an easy mistake to make, especially if you're setting-up in a hurry or not paying attention. I keep on-hand a few 1/4" Female-to-female adapters for just such things. Most of my combo's speakers have a short length of cable with a 1/4" male plug to the back panel. If for any reason I need to use it as a cab, I'll snap the female adapter to the cable coming off the speaker, and run another cable to the head suppling the signal source. I've also seen guys splice alligator clips (crocodile clamps) to an old speaker cable, then clamp right onto the speaker. Either way, this prevents this mistake from happening. |
