Is it true the Marshall MA combo amps come with Eminence speakers????

I've seen that on 3 or more websites. I wouldn't touch one if it doesn't have Celestion, would you?

Eminence makes some very good speakers. Lots of choices for different tone. Check out their website. They have sound samples of their models. Made in USA. No, I don't work for Eminence.

Re: Is it true the Marshall MA combo amps come with Eminence speakers????

I run Eminence in two of my Marshall amps. The Red Fang Alnico sounds so much better than the stock Celestion that was in one of my DSL401's.

I also run two Man 'O War speakers in my TSL122.

Eminence make some pretty good speakers!

I haven’t heard the amp in person but I think the speakers should be on par with the lower end celestions that they use in the MG cabs. Maybe they even might be a surprise and sound really good negating the need of a speaker upgrade (but that’s probably wishful thinking)

Eminence has got it going on. They are OE for a lot of cabinets. They have a line of their old favorites and I have tried several of these and I really like them.

Their top tier products are the Patriot and Red Coat series. I would match the quality and the build of these against any Celestion, be it "Chinese" or British.

Re: Is it true the Marshall MA combo amps come with Eminence speakers????

Indeed Eminence makes some great speakers. I have a Wizard and it is terrific, and I plan to get a Tonkerlite for my grab-and-go combo soon.

But I can't figure out why Marshall is using Eminence. AFAIK all Eminence speakers are made in the US; why use a US made speaker in a UK amp made in India or Vietnam? And Celestion has shown their ability to make very low cost speakers in China. Maybe Eminence gives them a better speaker for the money perhaps?

FWIW, the designer of the MA series is Steve Dawson (same guy that designed the Vintage Modern and JH reissue), and he said the MA cabs are MDF not plywood.

Re: Is it true the Marshall MA combo amps come with Eminence speakers????

One of the first things you learn as a cab builder is that MDF is a no-no. You can cheat and use it as a baffle board (some say that it is superior to plywood in this case). MDF is heavy and it doesn't glue up well. It is prone to edge breaks. I can't understand why a company would make an MDF cab? If it is a permanent situation, then that's another thing, but for roading, it sucks.

Nice score on the Wizard. I have two of them that are waiting to go in a cab. I may have to build me a 2 by 12 for them. The Tonkerlite is a sweet one as well. Eminence has several bass and guitar speakers using the "NEO" magnet. The George Lynch model is a smoking neo speaker. He uses them in his Randall cabs. Four of them will really lighten up a big cab.

I also heard the were using Linklin C-19 screws in the chasis and not Lawlor X15's fine threads. I wouldn't touch one if it doesn't have Lawlor, would you?

My combo has an Accutronics reverb tank in it; It dates to 2002 and was made in the US. Nothing suprises me anymore, even outsourcing to a superpower

Re: Is it true the Marshall MA combo amps come with Eminence speakers????

I have always had the notion that (almost) half of the Marshall sound was due to the Celestions. Celestions have a bounce (quick return) that I've never heard in any other speaker including Eminence.

If it's true, doesn't Marshall realize that Celestion is a large part of that "Marshall sound/feel"?

Not sure if I buy into that theory. The Marshall sound has to be considered the sound produced at the head. If not, you could go on to include tubes, speakers, guitar, pickups, etc.

I would also note that "Celestions" don't have "a" sound (as in one sound). Again, you must clarify which Celestion sound. As we all no, there are many variations.

My point is - Hendrix with his strat, Marshall and Greenbacks are "a" Marshall sound - but so is Zack, his LP, EMG's and EV speakers.

I'm excited to see what the new rig sounds like - it will be another, unique Marshall sound!

Re: Is it true the Marshall MA combo amps come with Eminence speakers????

It is entirely possible that they save money shipping amps sans speakers from whatever factory they are made in and new Eminence speakers are installed at a local assembly point and final tested.

I know, this doesn't sound like standard procedure for Korg or Marshall but stranger things have happened. When times get tough you make adjustments.

I have always liked Eminence speakers for their quality and the fact that they were all American Made in Kentucky. I hope this doesn't signal the start of offshore manufacturing of their product, even it is only one OEM project.

Re: Is it true the Marshall MA combo amps come with Eminence speakers????

I don't mean to be negative, but Marshall usually or always gets back to me when I write them. I wrote them weeks ago about this and they haven't answered. I wrote them a second time today. I hope they're not avoiding the question.
