what speakers to use with a 6100LE?
Somebody got experiences with different speakers with 6100(LE).
Waiting for an old 2x12 cab(1972) with one g12m 25w(-72) and a g12h 30w. Should be OK ? (except that it is 55 w and I have to use the lower watt setting not to blow speakers..) I also have one 2x12 1936 with the standard G12T-75 in it. How should I set up these two cabs? ohms etc.. is the G12T-75 cab sounding much more than the old cab with g12m & g12h? Do I have to use the low watt setting with both cabs lined up? THX

Cool amp,
Are the cabs rated at 4, 8 or 16ohm. What volume levels are you playing at ? this will determine what wattage rating you require. Remember that the 6100 heads are only wired for 8 or 16 ohm selection, if you need 4ohm ie 2x 8ohm cabs you will need to rewire the internal OT tap connections. |

Volume level:
hopefully not to loud .. I was thinking using it mostly at home for recording. The trick is hopefully to put it on the 50 w setting. Will there for instance be more headroom for clean-sound setting it to 100 w ? Risky? |

Re: what speakers to use with a 6100LE?
If you plug in both 8ohm cabs you will be running at 4ohm ( parallel connections in the amp ) so you would need to change the spade connectores inside the amp to run this configuration, unless you made up a series lead for the 2 cabs then you would have 16ohm & one jack plug into the speaker out socket.
I only use mine at home now but always leave it in 100w mode coz i prefer the tone from that setting & it wears the tubes evenly, sometimes i play through a 2x12 with g12h30's & know i'm going to do no harm because i just cant push it that hard without the neighbours hammering the door down, though i do prefer it with a 4x12 fitted with g12-65's. Your cab with the greenies in will be rated at 50w not 55 as you take the lowest powered speaker & times it by the number of speakers in the cab. |

Re: what speakers to use with a 6100LE?
NO,
They use the same plate for the cab & the combo, the head is 8 or 16 the combo 8 or 4 If you plug a 4ohm cab into the head & crank the amp say goodbye to the output transformer. Here's a link to someone who used 4ohm on a head. 6100 problem Check the link at the bottom of that post to the manual. |

Re: what speakers to use with a 6100LE?
I don't think running a speaker cabinet that's not rated for the output of the amp is a good idea. "Not cranking the volume" will NOT keep you from blowing the speakers. BTDT. Get the correct speaker handling capacity or use the lower power setting, but NEVER put (as an example) a 100 watt amp into a 50 watt cabinet and think putting the volume on 3 is fine. It isn't.

The Aniversary Cabs had 75's in them.I always like to use the
speakers Marshall issues with the amp.I'm sure they do a lot of testing before putting something out. |
