No sound from my JCM900

What could be wrong with it?
I've not done anything with it since it last worked and all of a sudden I'm getting no sound out of it, it starts to hum when I switch it on but nothing else. Checked all my cables and such so no problem there.

Jiggle the wires. It's an old networking trick but it should work the same.

Umm...

How long has it been since you replaced the tubes/is everything plugged in properly?

Re: No sound from my JCM900

Are the tubes lighting up? Both preamp + OP?
Is there a valve failure light on?
Are the fuses ok?

Obvious one..........has the speaker lead become dislodged?

Also there is an onboard fuse on the PCB, it could have blown but if not confident get a tech to check that one.

Lastly, get some contact cleaner and give the effects loop jacks a good clean. These can do all sorts of wierd thing if dirty/corroded.

Re: No sound from my JCM900

I'm waiting for Ken to drop in here and say to sell the 900 because it is crap and buy a DSL

I don't know what to tell you about the no sound issue. I've had this problem before, but it was my pedalboard acting up. I plugged straight in, and no problem, so I then troubleshot the pedalboard, found that a grounded wire had cut the power.

Anyway, good luck on this one.

It's true. Actually, I learned that "Jiggle the Wires" trick during my CCNA course. It's amazing that something so simple would be so useful. Sometimes, cables lose a strong connection and also it can help you find a cable that is not even plugged in. simplyben stated that he checked the cables but there may be an issue of a corroded solder that lost connection. I have a cable right now with that very problem. It could be the guitar output. There's just not enough information. Considering the fact that simplyben hasn't responded, he may very well have realized he forgot to take it out of standby ???

Re: No sound from my JCM900

hi there!

Seems like I got the same problem today. I was playing and then the sound faded out to nothing and no sound since, just hum. No smell, I used the amp on about 40% volume so I hope it doesn`t burn off.

Don`t know what to start with. What it could be?
thanks
