Yeah I've seen this before. I'd love to know his settings and what cab/speakers he runs through.

Yeah, that's a great way to sell some of those Mode Fours, I think....

I tested one when they were released and they sound good to me, but if you put them aside of an all valve head, the valve head wins... but that's only my taste of amps...

The MF280 cabs sound incredible though

The Mode Four is a beast that you have to learn to tame. If you have the manuals, it's useful to get you up and running, and you can them adjust to your liking. I run 1960a cabs with mine, and they are great for what I do. I've had guys become intimidated with my set up, but learn that they are very responsive amps that has a great versatility to them.

Re: Alex Skolnic Loves the MODE FOUR!!!

If AS says MGs are the best amps he's ever used and he doesn't have an endorsement, I would give MGs a second look. Opinions are certainly subjective, but when the amp isn't endorsed, much less discontinued, there is something to be said regarding the weight of his opinion.

This.
I had one and I liked it better than my mesa dual rec.
It sounded really good, but it was so touch sensitive it was easy to make it sound really bad as well. I would say its not a amp for beginners or people who have a hard time dialing in amps.

Re: Alex Skolnic Loves the MODE FOUR!!!

I'd never heard of a Mode Four when I saw the one I wound up buying on craigslist. For only $400 I had to go check it out Needless to say I was blown away and took it home without even trying to haggle.

These amps are indeed difficult to dial in. It took me over a month of fiddling with it before I was able to equalize the volume between all the channels, and to get it sounding good. Now that I know the secret, I could do the same with any Mode Four in just a few minutes.

It's definitely the most versatile amp I own. The 4 channels each have their own very unique voicings and gain structure, even though they share EQs. I don't have the MF cab, but I've read a lot of reviews saying they're built like tanks.

The first time I played with it live was at a 4th of July party. We were outdoors in direct sunlight from about 1pm on, and it was HOT that day. If that had been a tube amp, I have no doubt it would have overheated. We played for almost 8 hours, and the Mode Four sounded exactly the same from the first note to the last. I couldn't say that about any of my tube amps.

However, saying that the Mode Four is the best amp Marshall has ever made, umm I don't think I'd go that far! And it's definitely not for everyone. But it is one awesome amp that shouldn't be overlooked just because it doesn't have power tubes. Country pickers, classic rock guys, as well as metal guys can all get their tone from this amp without any pedals.

You're on. What rock star whose band at the very least can open for an arena-selling headliner would hype up one piece of relatively inexpensive gear just to unload it? Your link doesn't really back up your cause seeing it's 5 transactions in 2 years and none of those have happened for over a year.

Re: Alex Skolnic Loves the MODE FOUR!!!

If I am not mistaken, Alex was using DSL's during Testament's recent in studio show on Sirrius/XM radio's Artist Confidential series. Eric had his 5153's so I am pretty sure they had their touring rigs. Look around 3:34.
