Marshall Model 4203, Artist 30
I look at the forum but seldom post. Can anyone give me an idea as to when this amp might have been manufatured and how I would know which tubes to replace? Do you just pull the tubes and try to find OEM stuff to match? Who would be a likely source? The amp is like brand new and seems to work fine but I think I would like to replace the original tubes. As you can tell, I'm not an expert. I've had it for 25 years and very seldom play. It has the original 12" Marshall Vintage Celestion.
Any ideas as to what the amp might be worth? |

Re: Marshall Model 4203, Artist 30
Hey Rick.....an amp is only worth what someone will pay. Do a search on past sales for that amp on eBay to see what they're going for. I know a few have sold recently. It might be a bit lower than the true worth as these are trying times & gear is not fetching top dollar right now, but it'll give you an idea.
As for the tubes. If you replace them, you should take it to an amp tech for a re-biasing. If you just got the amp & you plan on using it alot, especially if you're pushing it, you should probably take it to an amp tech to check the condition of the tubes & replace if necessary, & to give the amp a once over. These were late 80's models. Good luck & enjoy......I have not had this combo but have a couple of the head version 3203's & love them.....mp |
