Happy New Gear Day! JCM 900 Love...

Finally!!!

After years of hunting, I finally found a used JCM 900 in really good condition. I wanted to avoid eBay and buy local so I could check the amp out first and make sure it had the tone I was looking for.

I've always been a fan of the 900 tone and this one delivers BIG TIME.

Re: Happy New Gear Day! JCM 900 Love...

The serial # starts with "Y" so I believe it's a 1990. Agreed, it's in really good shape for a nearly 20 year old amplifier. Sounds good at low volume, but just unreal when cranked.

Not only looks good, but seems functionally sound. I'll still retube/bias and get it checked out by a tech to make sure it's 100% gig-ready.

Running it through a 1993 Mesa 2x12 Tremoverb cabinet with V30's. Man, it just screams.

Shitt, that's 5 years older than mine lol. I'd love a nice 20year old 900. Mine turns a nice 14 this year... It's growing up so fast *sobs* lol.

Original trannys/caps? If so, how are they holding up? Mine are about to die, just gotta come up with the cash to get replacements. Gonna get me some nice Mercury trannys *drools at the thought* Although it'll cost me a whopping $1030AUD just to get the trannys D=

Nice amp pudge!!! I got the same model and year. Those first run EL34 versions have a little magic in them, don't they? Let us know what gear you're using w/it!

If you want to swaps tips and tricks I'm down.

Here's a fun one: for a sitar-like clean sound, roll down your volume and tone controls to about 3 on the guitar and crank the clean channel (everything else on 5). Also provides a great rhythm/crunch tone on channel B.

For sure. I've been searching high and low for a JCM 900 in good enough condition to be a gigging amp. Think I found it. I'll still probably get it checked out to make sure the caps and transformers are OK. But I'm not hearing anything to lead me to believe the contrary.

My main guitar is a Tyler Burning Water 2K.

I use a 535Q and Fulltone OCD in front, MXR Carbon Copy in the loop. Pretty much all I need.
