caps drying out

how long does the amp have to sit before the caps dries out? I havent used my JVM for about 2 months is that bad? do I got to fire it up at least 1s a month or more?

Yep, I hate to say you pretty much will have to throw your amp away now

Just kidding, your amp should be fine!

I've had amps that only got usuage once a month - never a problem at all with filter caps drying out.

Most modern caps have a shelf life of over 5 years, and with reasonabley regular use should last over 20 years in service.

It's a good idea to haul it out and fire it up once in a while. I had an early '70s Sound City L120 that I got when I was 16. I stuck that in a closet for about 5 years when i went through my rack gear days and when I pulled it back out it sounded horrible. I had to do a complete recap on it. Those old amps had large electrolytic cans that were very easy to change. I noticed my Vintage Modern has a bunch of radial lead caps on PCBs. The JVM is probably made the same way. I'm sure that is a much bigger pain in the ass to fix.

thanks guys wheewwww, im seeing it often here now people saying thier caps need to be change due to the havent used the amp in a while, yeah i krank it out 1s a month or 2 due to kinda busy at work and on the weekend busy doing stuff with the kids.

capacitors. Quite an important part of a lot of electrical circuits particularly amps
