Deep Purple

Any one have info on Ritchie Blackmore's setup (Late 60's early 70's time frame)?

He used to use Marshall Majors I think... modified to be around 275 watt...

ES335's until he got turned onto Strats in the 70's. A bunch of different effects that are hard to confirm, but treble boosters for sure. Hmm... I'm really curious too. His early live tone was awesome.

Yeah... But I think Ritchie's claim that Marshall increased his to 500 watt is bogus. I've read articles that said they were pushing close to 300 watt and blowing up constantly... but 500 is absurd.

Re: Deep Purple

Ask Dawk. He has maintained Deep Purple's guitars, organs, and sound equipment since '72. Somewhere in his forum he said that Ritchie uses a Vox amp through his Majors. Majors will not take effects in front of them. They will get the "Smoke on the Water" syndrome. They blow up in smoke. They were designed to take clean signals only and be very loud. Dawk also worked on guitars and sound equipment for Tony Iommi, Bruce Springsteen, and is currently working for Manowar.
