+++++ MARSHALL JMP Plexi 50W head +++++

Dear All,

I've been offered to buy a MARSHALL JMP Plexi 50W head (1974) for US$ 1430.
Could you tell me please does it exist a such Plexi head from 1974 or this is not a vintage plexi and is that price OK???

Thank you very much in advance.

Regards,
Milen

People do regularily refer to these amp as Plexis, so the add is not strictly lying, but they are not Plexi panels.
The Plexi panel Marshalls were from the mid/late sixties, discontinued in '69 I think but I'm open to correction there.
This amp is a metal face JMP50, I own a '71 myself and they are sweeeeeeeet.
It would need to be in original condition for it to be worth that money.
Do you have pics, including gut shots?

These are pretty high gain aggressive amps, mine starts to break up between 2/3 on the dial. It is also massivley loud by this stage which is why the guy suggested an attenuator!!
This is not a channel switching amp, so you will not be able to have clean and overdriven tones at the same time unless you use a pedal.
IMO this amp excels at it's overdriven tones and I rarely set the volume below 5. I then use the guitars volume control to get a clean sound if I need it.

Hi again,

Could you advise me what cab and amp I should looking for to get a decent vintage sound? Please give me a list of amps and cabs (if it's possible). There are so many and I'm not quite familiar with them.

Thank you in advance.

Besti wishes,
Milen

1960ax, is my fav ATM. SO lovley vintagey niceness (also not as loud as the standard 1960 cabs)

Like paolo said these things don't have a clean channel but they work so well in conjunction with picking dynamics and guitar volume that it reallly doesn't need anything else. You will also need an attenuator unless this is purley a gigging amp.

Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
Nowhere
Exactly
