Re: show your major

That looks pretty cool with the red tolex.
First time I've seen one like that.
Plexi, right?

I've got a 1987x, not the original, but nice amp still.
Here's a pic.

Tha cab is a 4X12 1960 bc (base cabinet)with 25w speakers.
The guitar on the left is a Frankenstrat replica I made.

Re: show your major

I'm not up on the specs of the Major, but the highlight is that it's 200 watt all-tube right? Damn...

That sounds like a cool setup. So does that mean you're running the 6100lm as a preamp or the other way around. I'm not so good with setting things up, I just go straight into the amp. I'd like to to try that though, but I'd have to do it right (lol).

I hear the red majors are super rare and they don't even have it the red tolex custom made ones in the Doyle's book of Marshalls. Aesthically nice and sure it sounds awesome!

There's one I saw on eaby, but this thing has got 8 inputs! Not sure if it was modded or not, apparently, the guy says it's not.

Reallty nice amp you got there again!
Rock on!

I really like black tolex the best but I still wish I had the red as well.

How do you like the greenbacks with the 1987?

BTW thank god we aren't talking about college majors.

The greenbacks sounds really good with the 25W at least to my ears. I had a Marshall 1965b 4X10 cabinet with the 35w speakers and that sounded really good. It was tight and punchy and a bit more on the trebly side which was good.

After a while I saw this 4X12 with the 25W speakers on craigslist, so I went to check it out for a test run before buying. At first I was turned off (considering the fact that I'm was not that familiar with Marshall amps or any tube amps for that matter).

Without an attenuator I had the volume on 2 or 3 and the thing was LOUD! But it was waaay to trebly and piercing to my ears with the 25W GBs. I asked the guy to turn it up a bit maybe to 6, and he said "sure". Again, LOUD and piercing! Then when you crank this baby all the way up the tone suddenly got warmer and saturated with a bit of compression, total sound changed to what my ears liked.
There was a bit of speaker distortion with the 25W which I really liked (some people hate that though). That added abit of harmonic overtone to the sound, kind of like the trebly, but not harsh sound of water crashing on rocks.

I decided to sell the 4X10 and get this one, because first I needed room and so no one in the house of notice right away I have two large cabs in my room (lol).

I'm happy I got this though. The 4X10 is sitting well with the other owner who told me his gig with the 4X10 went well.

I'd say the 25W GBs with the amp gives that extra bit of speaker distortion I like with a bit harmonic overtone.

What exactly does that do? You are using the 6100 distortion into the Major right?

Sounds great, I was almost lucky enough to own one myself. But that turned into a disaster and had to send the cab back.

Very interesting. Love the cab by the way, is it loaded with greenbacks?

Yeah, I like the 4X10s. They are super light to carry and sound awesome.

Thanks for the tip.
