The brake and residual dust
Of course I jumped on what seemed to be the last 16ohm THD I could find in hyperspace, and I must admit, it was a pleasure to finally see and feel those output valves glowing. I ran it through the various DB levels, and found that it managed the HDR quite well without any added noise and the tone was sill intact in LDR. Afterward, I dropped it to zero DB and ran my modded TS-808. it actually sounded better, I suspect due to the nicely warmed output tubes. However, from a purist point of view, I guess I could take it or leave it. I have to ride it a few more miles before I decide to give it the STEELHORSE treatment! Ha! Oh yeah, I didn't mismatch the Ohm's of the head. or the cab. Fatal mistake. Also, no need to dime the master, 6 was plenty coo, so all is well in the land of the VM and its short affair with the THD. Stay tuned.

Re: The brake and residual dust
I posted before that I have been on the fence whether to use my Hotplate or not. Of course my DSL sounds great with out it. BUT, to me, the sweet spot on this amp with my setup is with the master between 5 and 7 on either channel. Depending on the room, that's pretty damn loud. An attenuator on a minimal setting (no more than 8 db reduction on a Hotplate) helps tame it without suffocating the amp IMO. The other thing I like it for is running a line out to another amp with an FX processor in line. This maintains the punchy clarity of the main speaker cabinet and gives amazing depth and spectrum to echo and delay effects.
