DSL 100 pricing - quick check

Sup everyone, thought I'd drop by now that I have more time. I've been busy like shit with playing music (that marshall half-stack I bought in May is really sounding great!) and work, friends, etc.

But now an opportunity popped up, and I had to seize it. One of the guitarists of Trivium (my favorite band) is selling some of his gear (for future reference, his name is Matt). They'll be doing a headlining tour in March sometime next year here in Europe, and for all us gear-buyers, Matt will make sure we get in for free. That means free tickets for the show + backstage passes for me and my 2-3 friends that'll be coming along.

I sent him a PM and offered him 800 USD + cuisine & recipes from my culture (he loves food). He PM'ed me back and said that we had a deal. So that means he'll be taking care of any customs charges, no shipping involved, and I can be fairly confident that the amp is working properly.

I wasn't sure about offering $800 at first, but figured that it wasn't so bad if I wouldn't have to pay customs, shipping and tickets. And since my friends would get free tickets and passes as well, that would definitely save me money since that means I'd get a free ride to and from the concert (as would they, bar the driver's gas expenses) and getting the amp directly home would also be problem-free.

What do you think?

Re: DSL 100 pricing - quick check

The amp was the title of his post- a DSL100. They are available in the states again as a package deal for $1299, including a MC412 4x12 cab. That puts the value of the head alone at around $900 since those cabs are $399. I just took a look around Ebay and it seems that used heads are in the $750 to $900 range at the present time. There are even NOS heads available for $1000 to $1400! Some are even more than the new package price of $1299.

Re: DSL 100 pricing - quick check

Yeah, the DSL 100 for 800 sounds to me on the verge of too much, that's why I was asking. On the other hand I don't want to be a cheapskate because in Sweden these go for twice that amount if bought new. I dunno if that's with a cab or not. I don't REALLY need a cab though, as I already have a JCM 800 1960A with great speakers. An excellent cab as far as I can tell. And I would still get free tickets to see them and all that jazz ^^ but most importantly, it's more a trusted source than a random second-hand sale here in Sweden.

any time you could get your hands on a Trivium item I would go for it. Trivium's beast!

Re: DSL 100 pricing - quick check

$800 for a DSL in your door is on the market. I would hope the tubes are reasonably fresh and the amp is biased in spec. Buying gear from a touring band seems to me a bit risky though. Life on the road is tough on gear.

Re: DSL 100 pricing - quick check

I'm assuming he has all those things checked. He seems like a decent enough guy. And he hasn't been touring with these amps since... 2005 I think? Been using Peaveys and 210H's the past years. I'll ask him more about it when the time comes, but I'm assuming the tubes aren't worn out and that the amp is in a readily decent state.

Re: DSL 100 pricing - quick check

Sounds like a good deal to me man. I used to be a bit of a Trivium fan, not so much any more though, and they have good techs that always go over their gear, so it should be good.

Tell him some Aussie kid called Jesse Close says hi, and good luck with it man, also, Sweden rules! =D
