Re: You have got to see this!!!!
This reminds me of the Guitar Center here in Las Vegas (maybe they're alike everywhere) that has a wall of faux amps behind the real guitar's for sale. It may not be real but it has a cool vibe. This would be cool for a music room if you had the cash to do it. It would be better than notty pine paneling. But still $850 for this? Better to spend the cash on a real cab. And for the audience sitting off to the side of the stage it would appear to be the thinnest Marshalls in existence. No Greenbacks, just electrostatic speakers. Not much bottom end.

I would never use that on stage, and I would laugh at anyone who did.

Re: You have got to see this!!!!
I always wanted to see what a fake portable Marshall wall would look like.
I've seen the ones in a few Guitar Centers, but they obvioulsly fake and not for sale. I had wanted to paint a fake wall of Marshalls along the back wall a a friends garage, but we never got around to it. I wonder what it cost to make these? Probably alot less than $850. But you have to know what you are doing (like a guy who's restored a few cabinets before). |

Re: You have got to see this!!!!
I've seen some guys running empty cabs but at least they were real cabs. Could you imagine being a sub soundman and walking into the club and seeing a wall like that? Or how about in a church service? They'd be pouring holy water on you with a garden hose.

Re: You have got to see this!!!!
To me, it's ok if they obviously look fake...as a joke... like this:
![]() There's only one REAL Marshall up there. ![]() but to try to pass them off as real is a lie, and I don't like liars.

First-off, yes you are not going to fool another musician with a fake wall. (maybe with one or two empty or non-working real cabs as Kendall pointed out) And if you are caught, and somebody makes an issue of it, it can be embarrasing for the band (like a groupie with a padded bra who has to fess-up at the last minute... LOL). But remember alot of this hobby is show-biz, and a prop like that will definately impress most of the non-playing audience. It depends on the gig I suppose. I think that prop might look good for the house-system backline wall at a large club, with a decent size stage. I definatley wouldnt take to an outdoor event where people could walk behind it....the 4-inch thick upper cabs and 2x4" frame would definatley give it away...LOL |

Re: You have got to see this!!!!
Cheap Trick used to have a huge wall of torn up cabinets behind them with Christmas Lights inside. They looked cool, and it was pretty obvious most were empty.

Re: You have got to see this!!!!
My take is "what ever floats your boat" but really I thought we are suppose to pack light? This seems like it would be additional weight that we don't need. Interesting though and looks kinda cool.

One time, my band had gig at this venue that had recently changed owners. We found about 6 old monster cabinets behind the stage, who knows who's? We figured WTF...so we just lined 'em up along with our own "live" cabs...it looked awesome! |

Re: You have got to see this!!!!
That bullshit is pitiful, how sad.
What does it have to do with music? And as far as visual stage props, who cares. I would hate having such an inept imagination to have to resort to a mock up of bunch of nonexistent amp cabinets and be enough of a poser to spend $850 which is the price of a halfway decent sounding real amp on fake crap to haul around to shows. ![]() Most won't agree with me but I could care less. |

You spend thousands of hours working on the music, sure, but if you're asking for money from people to see you and your band, it would be nice to go the extra mile and have a stage performance too. The backdrop is part of that, at least if a wall of Marshalls contributes to your look. I'm a huge Judas Priest fan because of their music, but their stage show and huge sets make them that much more enjoyable to see live! Is that "selling out" NFW! They rock! I'm not too cool to say I don't have to put on a show because my band is so good we don't have to. Until we sell more albums than the Beatles I'm going to give a maximum effort to be entertaining. A wall of fake Marshalls is better than no wall at all! Ken |

Re: You have got to see this!!!!
A wall of fake Marshalls is not maximum effort, it's the opposite. Most intelligent music fans care less about a bunch of speaker cabinets, fake or real.
I hope those people who make and sell this facade will reap some massive cash and take any would be performer who is going to shell out the money for as much as they are willing to pay so they can drag as much BS to the job as possible. Not to mention what it does to their dexterity. It's like: "Hey guys, I'm going on a bicycle race. Could you hand me a couple of those cinder blocks so I can show everyone how much a badass I am?" |

Sure the music comes first, but this is rock-n-roll... not Mozart at the Met, it's supposed to be fun, and not that serious. There's nothing wrong with a little tounge-in-check over the top visuality once in awhile. Do some go too far with schtick to cover lack of talent....well yeah sometimes, but not everyone is born a musical genius. Id rather see a band thats not so great but puts on a SHOW, and has fun doing it, ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() than some moody brooding perfectionists going nowhere. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() You gotta keep it fun, otherwise it becomes too much like work....and if we wanted to work we'd all get real jobs right? (that was supposed to be a joke) |

Re: You have got to see this!!!!
I see your piont, but for me this isn't a hobby it is part of my job and some of the crap I have seen that passes for music and performance boggles my mind. I say practice and rehearse your ass off then let the listener or audience decide.
If artists want people to take rock&roll and musicians in general more seriously they should look at the big picture. I wish some musicians would put themselves in the listeners shoes once in a while. Most people want the music to touch them like nothing else, to take them away from their problems and the daily grind, not have to endure some jimmyjerkoff who thinks a Marshall, Fender or any logo is going to accomplish it. I see family during vacations and it's always: "Oh, there he is, the musician, when is he going to do something with his life?" This is a perception that is generated by other's lazy lack effort such as deferring to a wall of fake Marshalls. Nobody gives a shit. And stating that perfectionists go nowhere is a deficient generalization. |

Re: You have got to see this!!!!
I'm with ya, Hollowbody. Like I said earlier, if it's obvious, like a joke, it's ok. Pass them off as real, and you're a poser. It crosses the line from playing music, into show business.
