help with choice :)
(Sorry if my English is bad
)Hello, i dont know much about amps. I dont know what Head & Cabinet to get. I mostly play rock & metal. I was wondering if the Marshall JCM 800 2203 Re-Issue is any good and the 1960 AV for cab. I would really appreciate if you have any thoughts on what to buy

Re: help with choice :)
If you're playing rock, a JCM800 is great, especially for the 80's stuff. It can do a more vintage tone too, if you roll back the preamp gain and crank the master. For metal I think you'd need to use a pedal. Or look at the JCM900 SL-X or similar "high gain" models.
I'm sure the Marshall JCM800 re-issue is OK, but IHMO it would be crazy to buy a reissue for $2200 or whatever those go for now, when you can buy the original amp, the real thing, for $1000 or less on Craigslist or similar sites any time. I see these almost every week. Sometimes you can even get the cab with it for that much. Lots of good deals out there these days. Even if you end up putting in a couple hundred more for new tubes and caps, it's still waaaay cheaper. Plus a real vintage Marshall has better mojo than a re-issue. Ah, just noticed you're in Iceland, so probably no Craigslist there, and not such a big used market. But if you can buy from the UK or US via ebay or private sale, you should still be able to find a good deal. Hey, for the $1000 difference in price, you could probably fly to US or UK, buy a used amp, fly home with it, and still save money! ![]() -Rob BTW, been wanting to visit Iceland for years, just haven't got around to it yet! Beautiful country. |
