Got my Marshall Haze 15 full stack!

I played both Haze amps on Monday and got the Haze head and 2 cabs.
The store had a Epi Jr - Orange TT - Vox NT - Haze 15 all set up beside each other.

Honestly - the Haze 15 blew them all away.

I will be doing my own A/B testing and will report on some details in the next few days.

Kind of unfair to lump these together based on wattage being the category. I think the Marshall's gonna out do the NT and Epi Jr in the gain department anyways as well as having more to offer circuit wise. I've never played a TT so I don't know about it.

It has more 12AX7's(3)in the preamp and 2 6V6's. On board effects and 2 foot switchable channels and price point is more.

Anyways I'm looking forward to your review cause I luv's the Marshall's...

Better then the TT? That is a surprise, a nice one at that...

Yes I know but just so you know it's a great amp. Sounds just like a Marshall especially when you crank the clean master to 10, even chan. 2 master on 10 then dial in the preamp gain.

FX are cool - it remembers the FX settings with the channel change.

It' cool to have an amp you can dime and not be too loud.

I thought the head/cabs had a fuller-thicker sound than the combo. I liked the features of the combo - 40 watts, fx loop, boost and presence. But I like mini-stacks so I had to go with the head/cabs option.

Congrats on your new amp!

It was good you got a chance to compare it to other low wattage amps too. Honestly i didn' know it would out do the Vox NT, i've really got to try them out now!

So to be clear, you are saying you like the overall sound of the 15 watt 6V6 head (and stack) over the 40 watt EL34 combo. It will be interesting to see how they compete against each other. The last time I was selling NOS 6V6's, Steelhorse acted as if I was spreading polio. Looks like he got over it after hearing your report. 6V6's rule my friends. They are little 6L6's with a big warm heart.

Re: Got my Marshall Haze 15 full stack!

I am not one who says I can "hear tube types". But I did think that with both clean channels cranked, eq flat, that the head/cabs sounded better. BTW - it was 2x12 vs 1x12.

If you like Marshall's you will love the Haze 15. I just played the Haze and the NT. The Haze sounds perfect, but i am still trying to find the best cab for the NT, it sounds to thin and too much highs in the boost mode.

I think the NT is going to be one of those amps that does well in a mix due to its presence and brightness cutting through but by itself its just seems too bright. The bass will help it out.

It did well with me and another guitar player and didn't sound as sharp or fatiguing to the ear. Actually sounded good...for our blues/rock.

I have mine paired with a 112 K100 and that speaker has awesome bottom and lower mids with a restrained top end. Its still runs bright no matter what. Maybe a GB will be cool. The CTO-1 is a great pedal with the NT. With any amp.

The only reason I didn't wait for the Haze is cause I have the Marshall already. I wanted something tonally different. I love that you got the full stack. So cool man. How to you like the Marquee G12-66's in the cabs?

I haven't had a chance to test the Haze cabs with different heads or compare the cabs to others that I have. I will do that soon.

Congrats tarznamps!

Your penalty for being first is that you have to answer heaps of questions. Mine are: With only a volume knob for the clean, can you find a slightly broken up tone when you cant turn the volume up very far? maybe using the OD channel? Also, hows the heat? does it heat up too much?

cheers

John

+1

The clips on the Marshall site sound like it breaks up really early, is there a little clean headroom in there?

I'll chip in there if you like.

There is a full 15 watts of clean headroom on the normal channel. With a single coil, this will be at between 4 and 6 on the volume control, dependent on different guitars and playing styles.

With a high output humbucking guitar like that used on the video, the level on the volume control is lower, but is still a full 15 watts of clean.

In this way, the channel is quite like a standard 4 hole vintage head for gain. Because of this, there is plenty of power amp overdrive available. After all, why buy a 15 watt head? It's to get cranked amp tones at a level where the audience, venue owner, next door neighbours (delete as applicable) don't complain (too much).

I hope this helps.

This is a great point I've also mentioned in other threads: the perfect "room" sound for you and your amp by yourself is frequently awful when you play with your band. I always use a little presence with bandmates but have it on zero at home, along with other tweaks. For example, I also have more gain/distortion at home. As I play a lot louder at practice with the band, I need less gain, and I like the slightly cleaner sound in the mix.

Trying out amps at stores is fine, but I also like opinions of people when they use their amps in a group!

Re: Got my Marshall Haze 15 full stack!

I'm interested to hear some high-quality sound samples of the Haze. So far it seems like an awesome amp. All I've been able to find on Youtube so far is the one guy from Whitesnake or whatever, recorded on a cell phone. Honestly, if you're going to record an amp demo, why on earth would you do it with a webcam or cell phone mic??

The NT and the Tiny Terror are both phenomenal for recording.

Dude only had the NT's gain at about 10am. Lots more locomotive unused on the thick voicing. Also the mids were way down while doing the cleans. Since I've had it for awhile there are much better settings especially clean. He pretty much dulled the chime.

I would take the NT and go head to head with him on some gained up blues. I bet those 2 amps would sound kill in a mix together.

He pretty much lost me with the tongue thing right off the bat though to be honest.

Re: Got my Marshall Haze 15 full stack!

Just out of curiosity, what is Fender's 15watt, all-tube head that competes with the Orange TT, Vox NT, and Marshall Haze? Anything?
