Looking into Marshall TSL or JVM410, Mesa may go away,

I had a TSL combo from 1998 for years that I loved, but it was not being used during a time when I was not playing, so I sold it. I loved the tones , but it was a bit loud even at 50 watts. Goes with the territory, eh?

I guess I'm into complicated amps, so....... I'm thinking of the 601 or 602 TSL combo, or a JVM410 combo.
Anyone experienced with these? What would one offer over the other?

Leaning towards the TSL 60 watters since I really don't need 100 watts.

I currently have a Mesa Lonestar Special.

I find the bottom end too flabby very often, especially when running in hiogh gain. I do drop the bass down to help, but it still farts........
Any suggestions to tightening up the Mesa? I'm going to retube it, but I'm not sure it will get rid of the inherent flab in the distorted mud area. Seems to be the nature of the beast, as the 1 x 12 at the music store has the same inherent characteristics. I have the four 10" combo.

It sounds great on all strings except the lower A and E, so my main riffing style produces some farty fuzz tones I'm not real happy with. The amp is a tone monster, but when the preamp is driven hard without a distortion box feeding it, the flatulence occurs.

Now it is a two channel amp and sounds great on a lot of things, but I guess I'm missing my Marchall TSL combo.I just like being able to get great tone without blowing the walls down, so I like to do it in the preamp, and prefer not to use pedals. My TSL , even at the reduced 50 watt setting was a bit loud for my ears, but it always had a tighter bottom that I loved. Maybe I just need to go there again? Thinking of the TSL 601. I've been browsing the Marshall forum too, but have not posted there yet. Maybe I'll repost there as well....

Going to try a Benz -Genz later as a diversion. Just to see what they are all about. They sound nice when I hear the online demos......

Oh yeah, I have been driving it with the 07 R9 .

Lately been getting happier sounds out of my Roland cube herd ( Have three ) than the Mesa, so it is time do do something. And I miss my old Marshall combo......

Man... I know I've already said it over on MLP, but Mesa's just have that flabby bottom end. I've been playing a MKIV Widebody for a while now, and even through my favorite 4x12 its just not that Marshall tight bass. I'm thinking about selling it and getting another DSL or something.

LOL! Hiya Loki. I just figured I'd branch out and ask another bunch 'o' gear heads. Though as we can see, there is a lot of overlap

Anyway, I tried the Genz Benz ElDiablo head with a 2 x 12 , and a 2 x 12 Black Pearl today. The Peal sounded a lot like the Mesa complete with low end flatulence, but tighter and less pronounced.

I really loved the El Diablo clean sound and reveled in it for almost a half an hour! Cool stuff there! I fought with the dirty side for a half hour and came up with . It just fizzed and always had too much "hair" hanging on and between notes. Oh well.

I also enjoyed a 6L6 Fender Supersonic. It had a lot going for it.
Got a great clean sound out of a Fender Solid State Jazz amp the Jazzmaster Ultralight. I digressed from my mission, but it was a cool 250 watt head and cab.

Going to the Marshall store tomorrow, or maybe the boutique store with all their exotic pricey gear. I did like their Carr Mercury, but too limiting in tonal scope. I'm looking for a versatile amp, not a really great OD tonal monster like many of the boutique amps can be.

The Marshall store has a 602 TSL. I look forward to trying it. I may keep the Mesa too since it is real good at a lot of stuff.

Or perhaps I should go back in time to this, with my Tom Sholtz power Soak added of course!
