Dsl 100h

Hi, I'm new here to the forums, and am proud to be here. Just wondering what the general opinion is of the DSL 100H. I just got mine and since my wife is home from work today I couldn't really try out the bad boy yet. Got it at Musicians Friend and reading one of the reviews, it was said a mod was in order. Here is the quote from the review

"Comments about Marshall DSL100H 100W All-Tube Guitar Amp Head:
The secret to great tone with this amp is to remove C19, which is the first thing I did as soon as I got it out of the box. I already knew I had to do this mod. Once done the tone warms up, and since both channels share EQ, you don't have to go and adjust every time you switch channels. I don't understand why Marshall added C19 that makes the OD channel sound fizzy and thin, but after the mod it can go into JCM 800 territory."

What is "C19"? I asked the tech guys at Musicians Friend and was told that it was an internal mod that would void the warranty for sure and in any case was not necessary. No clue what there talking about with "C19"

Honestly, a dumb ass "like me" would be clueless as to the results I was to get from this mod, and feel like its something for you guys that do have a clue. Is there anything to this? And did I get a good amp?

Re: Dsl 100h

C19 is the bright cap for the ultra gain channel. Removing it basically cuts some treble from that channel and makes it more similar to the green channel (in eq only, not gain). My 100H still has the C19 cap and I'm on ultra gain 1, 95% of the time. However, I keep the treble and presence at about 2.5 and 4 respectively. Some have reported that replacing the C19 470pf cap with a 100pf cap, yields even better results than removing it. That said, play it for a while and get familiar with all the tones you can get from this amp before modifying it. Modifying the amp WILL void your warranty if that is a concern. ** Always be safe! Amplifiers contain lethal voltages even when unplugged, unless the caps are properly drained.... dead guitarists tell no tales!

Well thank you very much. I was curious as to what C19 was and now I know. I also know I will NOT be messing with that. I'm so impressed with just looking at this amp up close I feel like a little kid at Christmas.

Isn't that such a great feeling? I had that for a while after I bought this:

Now you know what this means? You have to post up of YOUR amp.

Re: Dsl 100h

dont modify the amp. Just make sure it is biased properly and has a good set of valves. If you want to change the tone just use an eq pedal
Best of luck. I am currently having lots of problems with my dsl100h. Hope it can be fixed as I love this amp.

Isn't yours a JCM2000 version? I'm pretty sure the OP is referencing the new 100H.

Its a great amp, learn to use it as is. No need for mods right out of the box. Enjoy the amp!

Re: Dsl 100h

The amp sounds brilliant to me, no mod needed for tone! Sounded great when i gigged it too
I quite like to slight boost of treble... i think it helps the lead cut through a bit more.

Oh yes sir, What a beautiful monster Marshall. Is it a signature series? I'm just beginning to learn about Marshall amps. And the Gibson is beyond beautiful.

That's just a standard Marshall JVM410 on top of a Marshall 1960A Lead cabinet. The guitar is a Gibson Les Paul Custom (read: $4,000) in a Silverburst finish.

Again, where are YOUR
