200 watt solid state bass amp enough???

Will a 200 watt solid state bass amp be enough to play with a 50 watt all tube marshall head with a 2x12 cab?

I guessing maybe with the right speaker setup, but not with a combo 1x15?

Any suggestions on a cheap bass rig that would be good for recording and sufficient for small gigs with a 50 watt marshall head?

Music style is hard rock.....

Thanks Marshallites

Re: 200 watt solid state bass amp enough???

our bass player has a 300w ss amp with a 2x15 and 2x10 cab and it is just freaking loud, we have gig with a DSL100, an AVT50 w/2x12 and an MG100 w/4x12and the bass amp had no issues to play as loud as required (neither the AVT or the MG) on a 250 people bar so i guess a 200 W with the proper cab can do the trick, just get the most efficient speakers you can

a 50 w amp with 100db speakers can sound as loud as a 100w amp with 97db speakers

Re: 200 watt solid state bass amp enough???

Depends on the gig, small gigs yea, but bigger auditoriums
no. I would go with at least a 2 15 cab, or 4 10 cab
but you can get 300 watt ss amps pretty cheap now

If its a 200 watt Tube amp though it will be loud enough
for some reason they pump out more power?

Not all SS amps are created equal though, get a
quality bass amp if you can like Galien Kruger

Really its more important to have more speaker
power than amp power though so you are pushing
more air, bass is all about pushing air

thanks, I can only afford a cheapo right now, was looking at the 1x15 Acoustic 200watt combo, and then to use and extension cab with it when gigging. It sounds pretty good in the store as far as tone goes, so I think it would be a good recording amp for the money, but just curious about a live gig with it.

AH Acoustic is an excent bass amp

if thats all you can afford, that would be a good one.

if you can keep your guitarist at about half volume
it would help
