JVM215c vs JVM205c for a home amp?
Hello,
I've been playing for 1 year and want to replace my Roland Cube30x with a nice tube amp. I don't gig at all(at least not yet) and will be using this amp for recording and just plain having fun in my house so I want to get the smallest Marshall JVM. This leaves the JVM205C 50w 2x12 and the JVM215C 50w 1x12 as the only choices. I actually got to play the JVM205C and that is what caused me to fall in love with this amp but was wondering if the JVM215C is a better choice for a house tube amp. Thanks! Jimmy |

Re: JVM215c vs JVM205c for a home amp?
Ive got a 205C which I gig with, also use it at home turned down and with a hot plate. It sounds OK at bedroom levels but not as good as when gigging (obviously). I would use it over any practice amp as they sound crap compared to this with the hot plate. If you think you might gig in the future then get the 205C and possibly a hot plate.

Re: JVM215c vs JVM205c for a home amp?
Not sure what else to get? I tried a Mesa Boogie express 5:25 because it has a 5 watts option but it did not give me what I was looking for. I also tried a Line 6 Valve 40w (tube amp) at my house so I wasn't expecting the 50w JVM to be much louder than the 40w tube?? I would expect the 2x12 JVM to be louder than the 1x12 JVM??
Thanks! Jimmy |

If you don't care about the brand get a vox fender or orange amp.

Re: JVM215c vs JVM205c for a home amp?
Vintager12,
Thanks for your help. One last question. I really like the Marshall's so I am going to get a JVM215C 1x12. I am thinking in my case one speaker is better than two as I am only going to Mic one speaker in my studio and for jamming in the studio one speaker should be enough to Am I correct to assume that? I have a JVM215C and use it at home.
The Master Volume on this amp is superb and allows me to get superb sounds at bedroom volumes on all 6 modes. Plus the amp works with pedals really well. Boss SD-1 into the JCM800 mode is great. |

The JVM series is one of the best sounding amps at low volumes. They are actually inspiring at low volumes. You can get just about any sound you want without blowing out the windows. I have the 410H and I do not need a hot plate.

Re: JVM215c vs JVM205c for a home amp?
Hello all.
For practical reasons, the haze might be a good option, as MBMike stated, but you also gotta to consider whether the sound from the haze is what you want. If you are going to purchase a combo, there is one thing to consider: the number of speakers in the amp. Depending on the how the speakers are wired, a 50 combo with two 12 inch speakers may not sound as loud as a 50 combo with only one 12 inch speaker; this is because you will only get 25 watts from each of the two speakers in a 2X12 50 watt combo, whereas you will get all or just about all of the 50 watts coming out of one speaker. Again, wiring is a big factor, just as ohms rating on the speaker since this will affect headroom and breakup of the speaker. I have a little 15 watt line 6 spider 3 amp that has a huge sound! I hook this up in stereo with my JVM or fender combo and you can hear that little 15 watt amp very well (I use the 15 watt combo's onboard effects while I run my other amps dry). But it's really up to you and what you think is best! This is where amp demo is real important. Go to the guitar store and ask questions about the differences between the combo models. Then, plug in with your own guitar and try it out at both low levels and very high levels to see how the speaker reacts to changes in volume, gain, etc. Only you can decide what you like and what will work best for your purposes. Have fun and good luck. Hope this helps.

Re: JVM215c vs JVM205c for a home amp?
i have the 205c at home. im not in a band at the moment so never actually been able to crank it
but it sounds amazing even at a low bedrtoom level, or louder when no ones in. and it is loud but you can just turn the channel volume down with the master up and work it that way. with the 2x12 version you get the benefit of 2 differnt speakers in the back to get a slightly differnt tone then the 1x12 one. try them both and see what you think. but you cant go wrong with the jvm i chose mine over a jcm900 and a tsl i tried out.
