Toneless

Hey Guys

Great site.

I have a JMP-1 running into a 9100 into a Marshall 1922 cab.I am a little disappointed in the tone, it seems to be all top end, which tends to be very harsh.

The amp seems to have no real bottom end. I've played round with it for ages but to no avail.

I've come to the conclusion it has to be me as this combination seems to get good reviews.

Any thoughts?

Hmm... The JMP isn't really a thumping monster, but its a great vintage tone amp. How loud are you running it? Marshalls are lacking in the bottom end until you CRANK em up, usually.

Also a larger cabinet might give you the sound you're looking for. 1960tv is a great cab for a warm tight bottom end.

I got rid of a 4 x 12, 70's cab with greenbacks, boy do I regret it.

Purchased the 2 x 12 more for transportation more than anything (Not getting any younger).

I found the JMP-1 great for direct recording, but as I said the 9100 tends to make the top end harsh.Admittedly I have never really pushed it to its limits.

Maybe the way to go is to use one side of the 9100 with a powerbrake.

Re: Toneless

They are a pain to carry, but that extra room for air really makes for a thicker sound!

Avoid the powerbrake though, if you do decide to try an attenuator. THD's Hot Plate is a little better, but there are some out there that are fantastic.

Re: Toneless

Tried running one side of the 9100 into my speaker cab and it did sound better cranked.Still no bottom end.

Then I decided to use an old les paul copy I've had for over 30 years, equiped with a dimarzio Super distortion pup, now I seem to have found the bottom end I was missing. Upto this point my main guitars have been a peavey wolfgang (Korean) and an Ibanez RG fitted with a seymour duncan TB 4.

The Dimarzio seems better all round, better bottom end less harsh top, just nicer all round.
