Re: DSL50 tubes
Yes those Winged C's are excellent!

Re: DSL50 tubes
I'm using Ruby EL34B-STRs and also really liked the TAD EL34B-STRs, same tube, different label. They have the nice EL34 mid crunch with good low end. Also for pres I like the Tung Sol in V1-V3 and Penta in PI.

Re: DSL50 tubes
Right now I'm running Tung Sol 12AX7 preamp tubes and JJ EL34L output tubes and mine is sounding real nice. A lot of options. The Winged C might be a nice option though. I've been wanting to try those....

Re: DSL50 tubes
My stock answer - Groove Tubes GTEL34M Mullard reissues. Preamp setup du jour is NOS RCA 12AX7As in V1 and V2, and Tung-Sol reissues in V3 and V4. I need to try the Winged C's sometime, too.

Re: DSL50 tubes
I am more a fan of the Winged C's than the JJ's I currently use. Winged C is classic marshall to me. Unfortunately the winged C's I have are pretty much dead, they won't bias below 55mV, will get myself some more soon.

Re: DSL50 tubes
Only problem with that is you have to buy them from a tube broker or off of Ebay. Depending on condition, expect to pay $80 to $100 per tube with no guarantee.
I buy a lot of NOS tubes and sometimes you take a hit. However, to me it's worth the risk. I run 4 Tele EL84's in my DSL401 some of the time and RCA Black Plates at other times. I love to change out tubes and take the time to soak up the tone differences. Marty
