Re: SL5 in action

Thank you!

Damn, those V30's sound meaty, even in a small'ish combo on a 1W setting.
No head, no loop, but it sounds great!

I'll save my judgement for when we get a demo recorded with a real mic. Should get one from PremierGuitar eventually.

Sounds fantastic, but such a shame all it can be used for is a practice amp being a measly 5 watts...................

They could have done something to make it stand out a bit more as a signature model, like putting in a built in ashtray.

Sounds pretty damn good and LOUD. It also sounds like slash bent Marshall over a table..."slash didn't want...slash this...slash that...." How bout "WE" as in MARSHALL? Is it a Marshall brand or is it a slash brand? Take some ownership of it and don't act like slash hand built the thing in his garage.

It's an artist signature amplifier. The very point of it is giving the artist exactly what they want.

Re: SL5 in action

If it's $700 then in the UK we should be looking at around £450ish which I don't thinks too bad!
Cool little combo IMO!

About same as a JMP1C then!
Did I see somewhere the SL5 is made in China?
There's going to be ALOT of pro's & cons for the low wattage buyers to add up!
(Still better to be spoiled for choice than have non to choose from!)

Re: SL5 in action

Well, I'm glad it's got a 12" speaker and EL34 driving it. From the clips I've heard, it's worth checking out. Still will probably work for small clubs and studio work. That might be the most value. My 800 is noisy enough that it's a pain to record mic'd. It's a bit steeply priced but, as with most things, if you can hold out for used or coupon sales, might be able to acquire it at a more reasonable cost. Since I haven't heard the Marshall 5 watt amp, I'll maybe do an A/B comparison and see if the SL is worth the premium but, with the above stated bits, I'm thinking it might be a nice bedroom/basement amp.

Really? This is a full production model amp, not a limited Ed. Does that mean Slash is now the head of business development at Marshall? He's calling all the shots on what goes into the Slash line, where its made, what the price is?

No, probably, no, probably not.

What do you expect?

''Marshall: Okay guys! We've got a new Slash signature amp for you guys. Rest assured that there is absolutely NO personal input from Slash. We think that we know way better what he wants than he can tell us himself, so we just rolled with it.''

Please don't be obtuse.

What the **** is this nonsense?

If a company forced me to have features in an amp I didn't want or forced me to get rid of features I wanted in my signature amp, I'd take my endorsement somewheres else. That KILLS the purpose of a signature amp.

His line of attack on it being the equivalent of a DSL didn't work, so he's looking for a new angle from which to criticize ... just ignore it.

Re: SL5 in action

It's certainly appealing to me. I have been on the hunt for a used DSL50 since I sold the 1st one I had....one came up a week ago but since the SL5 is a reality I'm hanging off...5w is enough for me!

While that's true, the Nigel sounded like he took some slash tone to the face on a daily basis. He made it sound like Marshall had no input into it. There has to or had to be some discussion on the features not just that slash wanted, but what the public would want and buy. I'm just saying that its ok if they want to market it as signature amp designed with the help of slash, but dont tryto tell me "slash hand built every ****ing one these" which is the way he came across to me.

Re: SL5 in action

It sounds good. In my opinion it doesn't sound drastically different from a DSL15C but I would have to hear it live. I guess if you upgrade the speaker in the DSL to a vintage 30 you would get an even better tone.
