He uses Vintage 30's which I also use. I can hear the resemblance just in that.

Re: Getting That Slash Tone!?!

don't take this the wrong way !!!!!! but sometimes its hard to get you favorite players
tone because there is so much involved in getting that sound , guitars , amps , pick ups
strings , cords , tubes , picks ...........and then there is the way it was recorded in the
studio , thats too much to list .
he is one of my favorite players of all time , many players have spent alot of time and
money trying to attain his tones , so don't be surprised if you end up buying a marshall
and a les paul .
for speakers also try G12H30's or greenbacks , both are nice IMO .

GOOD LUCK !!

I agree completely! Having engineered and done some producing over the last 25 years, I can tell you that the end result of a studio track is far from what went into the mic. If you really listen to any great album, none of the tracks have the same tone.

I think it was Jimmy Page that said he wished he could cop his own tone!

Re: Getting That Slash Tone!?!

yeah, I have seen in interviews Slash himself say that to this day he can't get the appetite tone again... So if he can't do it, then all of us are definitely on a mission...

But I still try everyday with my TSL602

Re: Getting That Slash Tone!?!

I use either my Silver Jubilee 2555 with the Jubilee cab equipped with V30's or the same cab with a Vintage Modern and a Les Paul with low output passives.

Sometimes I go nuts and use one my LP's with high output passives or EMG actives just for fun.

It's all good and like the guys say, it's tough for even the original artists to replicate that magical tone. Main thing is to enjoy and rip it up!

Re: Getting That Slash Tone!?!

I suggest you guys check this out - it'll blow your minds
This is by far the most accurate reproduction of Slash's tone in Appetite and the Use Your Illusion CD's

Look for the videos on this guy's YouTube profile:
YouTube - PuroMojo's Channel

Cheers

Re: Getting That Slash Tone!?!

Yeah, that guy PuroMojo definitely has the best recreation of it... I watch his videos all the time... I think he uses a POD or some kind of Multi-Effects though... I thought I saw that on one of his pages...

Anybody have recommended settings on a TSL602?

Yep !
We like to have some fun when doing gigs.
But of course having a Les Paul and a JCM800 helps .... as far as the actual tone is concerned.
And the hat set me back over a $100 ... but hey it's only rock'n'roll !

P.S
We do try to get the sound right as well. Don't have a Guns song on tape.. but here is how we do Living On a Prayer

And it's the same Les Paul and JCM800 .. funny how that combination is just a KILLER for a lot of tunes !!!

Yep... sounds just like the Slash tone I downloaded from Line 6. The effect is an auto-wah based on a Mutron 3.

Well you are forgetting the Cigarette and the Tattoos then you will look exactly like Slash!

But in all seriousness, why work on trying to get someone else's tone, why not work on your own?? Well I can see trying to mimic Slash's tone because he is an awesome guitarist, however, alot of his Appetite For Destruction tone came from the amp, effects, guitars and pickups as well as above all his fingers! I would suggest work on getting your own tone and if you wanna play some of Slash's music, just incorporate your own tone and that will be the best!

Cheers,
Charlie

You can download a slash tone from line 6? What is it a preset for the spiders or something?

Tattoo and cigarette. How could I forget !! I'm on it ...
Totally agree with your input... but this particular band is a cover and we actually only play one Guns song. So in essence we try to imitate the sound as best as we can .... and sometimes even the look But playing tunes from 20-25 different bands in one night I'm sure I strike out quite a lot soundwise ... Hey we even do ABBA ... on Marshall !!
See for yourself: ->

It's all in good fun !

P.S
I do play in other bands as well where I totally get to do my own thing.

Lots of fun - that's our motto ! And it gets even more enjoyable using my JCM800. I have tried a lot of different amps (even non Marshall ) for this particular band trying to get the best sound and the best fit. The JCM800 became the clear choise ... even for Abba (not my favorite as well )!

So to get back to topic here I am pretty happy with my Guns sound using the 800 with my Les Paul ... hat or no hat! Will post a video of "Sweet child of mine" when I get one ...

Saving money is not the problem. I choose to buy a modeler, it depends on what you think is a good gear for your purposes, and using that to have fun!
That's just my opinion.

You gotta try an all tube marshall, pedals and your gibson. But to be honest the real tone comes from the fingers.
