I always wonder if some of this stuff is just fake and some one made a good replica. I know this one isn't but some of the stuff.

Haha, maybe it just us. It doesn't interest me that much either Probably very interesting for collectors, though.

Its kind of funny you mention that, because Steve Marriott used a Marshall PA head with his stack,
i was just watching some old Faces Videos on Youtube.
And the guy selling that speaker cab said there were only 6 made four for the WHO
and two for the Faces

And only a handfull of dual OT's were made. The first ones for The Who and The Small Faces.

Re: Holy shit, check this Marshall 8x12 cab

The story goes that the Who's roadies complained about the weight of these cabinets and they were subsequently sawn in half at Jim Marshall's workshop in Hanwell to create the now standard 4 x 12 half-stack cabinets. As to the origin of this cabinet on Ebay you only have to ask Jim Marshall or Pete Townshend to verify it before spending all that money, as they were made for him in the first place...

i have sent the photos through a friend to a mate of Pete's to find out!

Re: Holy shit, check this Marshall 8x12 cab

I don't think this was a Who cab. Could be a Steve Marriot cab, with changed speakers, changed grillcloth, and maybe other changes?

The Who used their 100w stacks with dual OT's and 8x12 for the first time in
November '65. My quess is that all dual OT's and 8x12 cabs were made in that month.

Could you ask Pete Townshend if they left some amps in Sweden on one of their '66 tours? It's a story here that says so.
That would explain how my amp ended up in Scandinavia.

don't know if he'll remember, the band left a trail of lost and broken equipment all over the place in those days but he looks after his gear now, though he briefly entrusted his road guitars in the care of Jeremy Clarkson

this could be true. Steve M preferred to use smaller Marshall combos at home in his later years

Re: Holy shit, check this Marshall 8x12 cab

I received an email from Irish Jack about the cab, as follows (before you ask, Irish Jack is the No.1 fan/roadie/friend of the band from the beginning)...

"Hello there Steve,
Sorry for not getting back sooner, been up the proverbial walls with stuff. Thanks for sending me the images. I don't quite recall us using this particular model despite the fact the vendor says there were four especially made up for The Who. As I recall the Marshall stacks we used came from Jim Marshall's in Hanwell W.7 and were not split framed. The Who ones (of which there were two at the start) didn't weight as much as these. I am now quite deaf in my left ear from spending 37 years standing next to a Marshall amp. Apparently I am unable to take out a lawsuit against any particular party and will just have to sally on with the £2,100 hearing aid...I hardly ever use, because it's either much too loud or I can't hear a thing ! PS. A coincidence is that the hearing aid cost exactly the same amount of money as my Puegoet 49cc Moped.
I hope this finds you well and in the best of good spirits.
With very best wishes
Irish Jack"

so there you go...
