Are you going to buy all 5 (or multi) 1 watt amps?
I'm curious as to whether there are many completists out there. It seems like there's a good number of folks that have picked up the first three.
When they were first announced, I decided that the JMP1 was the one I wanted. This was mostly due to my existing preferences with the bigger Marshalls - I like NMV types, and while I own and like a JCM, the modern MV amps aren't for me. To pick up all 5 is a big investment - 5 x $750 could buy almost any amp Marshall has ever made. There's been a big stink made about the price of even one of the 1 watters. If you have or are considering multiple 1 watt amps, what's going into your consideration? Do you own the bigger equivalents? Anyways - just askin'. I'm happy with just the JMP1. (Though the JTM1 is kinda calling to me...) |

No I have no plans to get the JTM, and I'm probably going to get one or the other of the DSL, JVM. I definitely want a combo of one of the last two but I don't know which to get?

No, got the JMP and JCM - may add the JTM later on if I find a decently priced used example.

Although I initially thought I'd get just one, that quickly turned into three. I said I was definitely done at three but I am already contemplating the JVM1. However, I think that money would be better spent upgrading my Epi LP to a Gibson if the pickup upgrade I'm about to do doesn't cut it for me. I will say that the JTM1 is my favorite at the moment. It is perfect for picking some BB King style blues. Sounds great with a strat and an LP.

I'd probably buy a YJM first..or the new Satch JVM.

Re: Are you going to buy all 5 (or multi) 1 watt amps?
Maybe there is some marketing wizardry behind the "50 years of Loud" campaign, (maybe not), but in my case (and that of others), the unintended consequences of shrouded releases will probably bite Marshall in the ass:
There are 5 1w amps, some I absolutely want (and have bought) and others ranging from "might want" to "don't care". At around $700-$750 for each "might want" to "don't care" amp, there is no way I'd consider spending all that when there "might" be a bBig-50 amp out in September. So, "if" there is something worthwhile in September, I buythat instead of the others. If there isn't (and I actually want to finish the set) odds are my money is going to a private seller for his LNIB 1w instead of a dealer's NIB since the moment to buy has passed.

Re: Are you going to buy all 5 (or multi) 1 watt amps?
Nope, the first three is all I wanted. I have other amps that can give me more modern tones, but I rarly use those tones anyways.
I had plans of buying the JVM1 also but scratched that after hearing how my 100 watt slave amp interacted as a switchable three channel amp with each of the first three being a preamp for the 100 watt slave amp. I have it dialed in now with the Alter Ego in the loop. Able to get each decade sound by itself or run any combination. Besides there might be something else to good not to buy sometime in the future. That and the wife thinks I joined some amp club where they send a new amp every 10 weeks.

Quote:
Once demos are released the last two will appeal to the non collector or the guy that just wants one for recording or home use. I know a die hard Fender guy who wants one to have the Marshall tone on stage. He can slave it into one of his Fenders. I think the will sell well.

Re: Are you going to buy all 5 (or multi) 1 watt amps?
When I first heard about them, I thought "I'll just get the JMP1, that sounds awesome." Then I tried the JTM1 and bought it because it sounds so good. I got the JMP1 and the JCM1 because I love the JTM45, the JMP and the JCM800 but really can't crank those at night in my studio.
As for the last 2, I've never been a huge fan of the DSL and I've never played a JVM; and there are no demos of them out there so it's hard to say. It would be nice to have an FX loop for recording so I'll probably pick up at least one of them. I tend to fall in love with gear that I don't expect to so I might get them both and see what sticks. |
