Marshall Plexi Tone Validation

Hey Guys,

I built this pedal and i am pretty much happy with its tone, i feel it is a close match to the Marshall Plexi' Sound/Tone.

Would like to get your feedback on what you guys think....

Here is a clip i recorded of the pedal.

I know only a Plexi can sound like one, but any feedback on the pedal's tone would be highly appreciated....

Re: Marshall Plexi Tone Validation

I Think it sounds good, (your guitar is slightly out of tune, I know I often record out of tune as well but it takes the focus of the sound)

If it is DI recorded it is very organic. However what I feel is lacking in the sound comparired to a plexi is the complexity. Gain is different on all frequencies giving it a very fat sound. Here is a 68 plexi lead channel 1 all eq on ten volume on eight. Vintage 69 greenback 4x12 and old goldtop with PAF recorded with an iRig mic and an iPhone so it's not recorded optimal but you can hear that the gain varies trough out the eq spectrum

Yeah you may be right, my guitar doesnt hold tuning well, i will try out with my ESP, maybe it would sound different or better.

I heard the track you posted, it sounds sweet!!!!!!

How close do you think it is to a plexi......i mean say on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the closest.

Re: Marshall Plexi Tone Validation

I couldn't say, I am in a iPhone now...

But I would like to suggest a new mind set. Tone is so much about feelings. You have made a great sounding DI pedal. No matter how good it sounds it can never fully capture the feeling of hooking up old amp and cab. Make the best pedal you can and keep struggling to reach your sound ideal. But trying to sell plexi in a box is hard, it's even hard for Marshall to get acceptance for reissues and the 1 watt series with some folkes who say they dont sound as the old ones...

I think you might have something going on! Good luck!

Best plexi

You are right, I have been and will work on tweaking this thing....till i am convinced...and no i am not planning on selling one......its just that i can't afford to or rather i should say i can't get to buy plexi's here...where i live.....i need to get the tone i am looking for, which may mean more and more tweaking....i would however still like to know your and others views here after a good listen to the track please...

Re: Marshall Plexi Tone Validation

I like the sound of it. It's not so much like a JMP as much as a JTM.
One thing lacking is the unholy deep lows.
As pleximaster already pointed out the complexity is not the same as the real thing... oops, there are many real things out there, not always sounding the same.
And yet it sounds really nice.

Gr,

Gerrit.
