Exclamation 1959SLP no FX loop add Mesa Preamp, possible?

Hi, i'm so confused now!
I got a Marshall 1959slp with no fx loop, and David Bray mod.

Now i'm getting a deal for a Mesa Boogie Quad preamp.

1. Is it possible to connect the preamp directly into the guitar input from the amp, because I dont' have a FX loop, and I dont have a power amp to use the preamp alone.

2. how this will sound like? crap to get double preamp distortion. the marshall will color to much the sound of the mesa?

3. I'm trying to get Metallica distortion with it, should I try this setup, or get a Proco Rat with boost + EQ, and leave the Mesa deal to someone else

4. possible to install a FX loop to my 1959?...

- I need your help on this! thanks alot, I truly appreciate your input!

thanks again!

I always use a preamp in front of my plexi just on the normal inputs (no fx loop)
But as it is not modded I wouldn't know how it will behave on yours. Can you still operate it clean?

Gerrit.

Yes, i'm still able to get clean volume, the mod give me the opportunity, to work with the preamp lamp vs the big ones... So i can match the perfect... Or I would be able to only use the preamp at max, and low level on the main...

Are you getting good sound from your preamp directly in the guitar imput from your amp?

Thanks again for your help

Just got a new camera so I recorded this yesterday morning for testing (I should NOT touch a guitar before noon and I should tune before playing)
This is at a low volume but at high volume it does not sound that different.

Gr,

Gerrit.

*The Marshall does influence the sound, that is what a Marshall is for

Oh and... I generally have the head's volume high up and the preamp low when playing on low volume.
I just use the preamp to crank the volume for live/rehearsal.
I don't like to mess with the balance between channel 1 and 2 on the head so they just stay up.
By the time the amp starts to break up I just roll down the gain on the preamp.

Gr,

Gerrit.
