Re: First post..my marshall amp and les paul
Thanks ..i packed in playing guitar for about 6 years ,when 1 day i walked into a shop and saw the magazine "Les Paul icons" ..thought there were some good photos in there but at the time was a bit expensive, then i saw the competition to win a lovely looking les paul standard , straight away i said that is gonna be mine !!i sat in bed looking at the picture thinking to myself im gonna win this....i did...!! next month was the Marshall amp icons magazine..i thought no way am i going to win this but ill enter anyway, what have i got too loose..Glad i did..my only regret is i missed the" Fender strat icons magazine" the month before the Gibson les paul.

Re: First post..my marshall amp and les paul
You work for 'Guitarist' magazine, don't you?
![]() Forget about missing that Fender issue of the magazine - with your luck, I would have been buying some lotto tickets instead! ![]() I actually have that 'Les Paul' issue. It's pretty dire: lots of 'list' page-fillers and nothing your average Gibson LP fan wouldn't know already. As you say, some nice pics, though. I think the magazine has lifted its game since then - as these issues came out something like 10 years ago, yes? |

Re: First post..my marshall amp and les paul
Yes, you should definitely get an award for the best first post on the forum. Welcome. Now I have one question. Are you sure you don't have a relative working at the magazine and, like the lottery, you're not really supposed to be playing? If not, then here's to good luck and clean livin'!!! Cheers and congrats on the score.

Yeah, you could have been a Triple Crown Icon winner.
That is a nice looking amp and a very nice looking Standard. I really dig the top. Congratulations. |

Re: First post..my marshall amp and les paul
Holy-Moly!!!!!!!!!!!!!
![]() ![]() ![]() Not one but TWO?????? That is some awfully nice gear.....and your a very lucky man.. Now, I don't want to poop on your celebration, but I have a simple theory... In a rare events, luck can be good OR bad depending on context and your specific situation.. So, having said this...if you can be this incredibly lucky, it was stand to reason that you could be incredibly unlucky as well! Keep your head down, and stay alert... In the meantime you might as well go out and buy some lottery tickets....ride that wave baby!!This is the way I justify myself for having no real luck in decades...

So people actually win these?
I went to mall last month and entered the BMW giveaway. The only thing that I am getting free is bunch of spam emails. ![]() Congrats! |

Re: First post..my marshall amp and les paul
Sometimes people win.
I use to enter giveaways, especially from the various gear magazines. Never won a thing. I did get plenty of electronic and paper mail. I did not mind the store catalogs. Worst one was an entry in a drop box for a Harley. What I got was annoying phone calls, messages and mail from time sharing companies. That lasted for months maybe years. No more entries for me. |

Re: First post..my marshall amp and les paul
So you hadn't played in years, saw the ad and picked up a guitar and started playing to get ready for the contest? That's the bomb man.. You must be inherently great.
Do us a favor, post a clip or two. |
