Re: MG100HDFX vs MG100HFX vs MG100HCFX
There shouldn't be any difference in the sound outside of the normal differences between the same amp models. No two amps are going to sound exactly the same, even if they have the same exact model or badge number because of variances in resistor qualities, age of hardware products, whatever you want to come up with.

Re: MG100HDFX vs MG100HFX vs MG100HCFX
They will all sound the same. There really isn't much difference in them they are built around the same circuit major difference is just the added FX.
To be honest I don't recommend any of them. Valve State series and Mosfet 100 are the best by far for solid state from Marshall. (That I have used.) |

I understand that if your erection lasts more than 4 hours - you'll need to see a SPIDER II Line 6 - and you're erection will shrivel

Re: MG100HDFX vs MG100HFX vs MG100HCFX
the HDFX is the 3rd series of MGs, discontinued by early 2009 I think. The HFX and HCFX are the 4th series, completely different to the HDFX with 4 sounds and fully programmable. The difference between HFX and HCFX is cosmetic only.

Re: MG100HDFX vs MG100HFX vs MG100HCFX
I don't want to bash the MG series just because but if you are a new player I would seriously think about how passionate you are about playing and where you see your progression in a few months. If you want to inspire yourself to play then there is nothing better than having cool gear that you appreciate and can't wait to play. The minute you are exposed to tube amps I think you will find the MG very dissatisfying. I bought an MG100HCFX when I picked the guitar back up. The best thing that happened with that was I caught my mistake before the 30 days was up and I returned it. Otherwise it would still be at my house as a piece of unused furniture. You will see so many of those on Craigslist and the sellers can't hardly give them away. I would just consider this possible outcome before you purchase.
To address your specific question I loved the look of that MG HCFX half stack at first and for what it is it is decent enough. I think the HDFX gets the worst reviews of the ones you've mentioned. I think the best advice you've gotten is to get a little mg until you can afford a tube amp. For god sakes man, go get a Class 5 before they're gone. |

i think this is some really sound advice. My experience has been that good gear inspires me to want to play. I would save up a few more bucks and buy a small tube amp...a class 5 or even a Epi VJ. If solid state is the plan, I would look for a different company. ymmv

Re: MG100HDFX vs MG100HFX vs MG100HCFX
Good to see you back on the web santiall
![]() Also, I agree with the people saying to save your coin and buy a tube amp. I have an MG250dfx and while it sounds pretty good and very marsh ally and keep up decently with my JVM when the other guitarist is using the MG, it's just missing that signature ballsy depth and roar that a tube Marshall will provide in spades. I say if money is tight get a class 5, that'd definitely be more fun to play through than an MG.
