Amp or Car?
I made this just to get some opinions. I'm at the age where I could buy my first car. You know, nothing special an old used car..... I can also spend the money I saved up to by myself my first tube amp; a vintage Marshall plexi, something I have been drooling over for a LONG TIME. Now it's been a fact for a long time that teens don't make great decision but I think I'd enjoy my vintage Les Paul plugged into my sweet new Marshall amp a whole lot more than a car.......... What do you guys think? What's a better buy??????? Any insight would be very helpful!!

Re: Amp or Car?
If you're not going to need a car in the amount of time it will take you to save again to get one then get the amp.
if you'll need a car before then....get the amp. you can trade it for a car if you're desperate. you won't get a nice car for it but you'll get one that runs. i was going to say then car in the second sentence but as i said, you can trade the amp on CL fo a used running car if you get desperate. Re: Amp or Car?
just a thought: With a car comes car insurance, gas, oil changes, repairs, accidents, friends sponging rides off of you here and there and not kicking in any dough, registration and inspection charges and... chicks.
with a Marshall you get tube changes, great tone, great practice sessions and gigs, you'll be the envy of your non Marshall owning friends and.. chicks. ![]() Simple really. |

Re: Amp or Car?
A great amp will give back to you, a car just takes. Besides you can get some hot chick to cart you around.

Re: Amp or Car?
Well, you can't plug your guitar into a car, now can you?

Re: Amp or Car?
First u get da mow knee
Then you get pow wah Then u get the chicks! Even Tony Montana needed a Cadillac with Tiger skin seats to get him and, his hoodlums around, running coke deals, meng, chew know? What are you gonna do, sit at home and, play through your Marshall all day? Not a bad idea! You might actually learn to play a song or three! Get the Marshall! Make friends with cute girls that drive trucks, that can carry double Marshall cab stacks. Play gigs for dough! Don't do pay to play nonsense! I have a friend who runs that kind of scam. Yuck! Decisions, decisions? ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Amp or Car?
Buy the car.
The car will provide mobility / options that are more important to you right now. For example, the car will enable you to widen your options for employment, which will net you a better job, where you can make more money (and of course, with more money, you can always buy the amp again down the road). A few other random reasons to consider it: 1) If you start / join a band, how will you get to band practice / gigs? 2) How will you have a social life with your friends if you're stuck at home? 3) While a girl may or may not care whether you have a Marshall amp (really, most wouldn't know the difference between any amp), they WILL care whether or not you are able to pick them up to take them out ... having the ability to take a girl out on a date trumps having the ability to ask her to have her Mom drop her off at your place so she can listen to you play through your new Marshall. |

Re: Amp or Car?
I once sold a really nice guitar so I could buy a 1987 mustang. Wrecked the car, regretted not having the instrument ever since.

Re: Amp or Car?
Buy the car. You can't drive your amp to work and you'll never get a blowjob in the back of your amp.

Sure the amp is awesome but if you have an opportunity to get a car I assure you it will change your life more than the amp. You can buy a cheap amp or borrow a friend's until you save up money again. You will be able to do that a lot faster than the first time you saved because you'll have a car to go to work. I'm guessing you still live with your parents so your living expenses should be minimal, enjoy that while you can, and you'll have that plexi in no time. |

Re: Amp or Car?
Another vote for amp.
A car is a total money pit, whereas buying a vintage plexi when the Market is on it's arse will repay you with interest. When I played in a band at age 18-21 it was cheaper to get a cab everywhere with myself and my gear than run a car, a LOT cheaper! |

Re: Amp or Car?
I say, get the car. You can drive it to work, to earn money to get you the amp. By then, it'll also be able to transport you to band practice and gigs-- as well as everywhere else.

Re: Amp or Car?
I'd say get the amp!
When I was 18 I sold my first 'pro' guitar (Ibanez Jem VDY) to fund a Ford Escort. HUGE mistake the car did f@@k all but break down, constant forking out for repairs & in the end I sold it as I couldn't keep up with the constant up keeping! Also I now look on eBay & see the same guitar going for £1500+ where as the Ford Escort you'd be lucky to get a tenner! If I could go back in time that's one choice I'd alter! |

Re: Amp or Car?
You can get a good tube amp for the money that you have saved up, but I don't think you can get a good car for that amount of money.
Either get the tube amp that you want or keep saving more money for a better car.

Re: Amp or Car?
I can't imagine being your age and not getting the car. Seriously, it will only take one time for your friends to all go out to the lake with girls at night and leave you behind to realize the idiocy of buying an amp over a car at your age. Girls love cars and guy who can drive them around, they don't give two shits about what amp you play.

Re: Amp or Car?
If you don't need the car for work, go for the amp.
The car will cost you a lot every day, so you might not be able to save enough for the plexi. The plexi will hold it's value with little maintainance or it might even increase. The value of the car will go down. If you should really need a car later, you can still sell the plexi without a great loss, or even with a small gain. |

Re: Amp or Car?
An amp.
Trust me-some of the biggest arguments between mates are over "who turn it is to drive to the party". At least you'll be free from those arguments if you dont own a car.

Re: Amp or Car?
It might depend on where you live too. If you live in the heart of a big city, there's probably not a dire need for a car. But if you live in the country somewhere, a car might be essential.
