1959HW Plexi voltage question
I just bought a 1959HW Plexi and a 1960AHW cab. I read some things on variacs and attenuators for getting lower levels. My question is if you put the voltage selector switch on 100v and plug it into a normal USA 120v socket will that "brown out" the amp or is this something that can only be achieved with a veriac. What exactly is the voltage selector switch changing in the amp?

Re: 1959HW Plexi voltage question
No, you'll do the opposite, as you'll fire too high a voltage into the amp.
The selector chooses one of three primary windings in the amp, so that provided you match wall voltage to the right selection, the secondary winding delivers the correct B+/HT to the amp itself. |

Re: 1959HW Plexi voltage question
i see. so would setting the voltage selector on 240v and plugging it into a USA 120v essentially half the voltage of the amp and "brown it out", or is there more going on electronically that would create a problem in this case?
