Re: Signature models
I just got a Jubilee, which is the same thing as a Slash, only dressed in silver and chrome (and the Jub came first, it was reissued as the Slash). It DEFINITELY adds something, a very unique amp.
Yeah, Marshall did the Hendrix thing, a 100 watt hand wired plexi. A friend of mine had one, it's a great amp, but a bit expensive, and not alot of gain....but LOTS of volume! ...and EVH used to be a Marshall man. The first few albums display his trademark Marshall Super Lead "brown sound". He had some tricks up his sleeve though to get that sound, such as a Variac = a variable voltage power supply so he could raise/lower the voltage slightly. It would be cool if Marshall did a re-issue that somehow got that sound.

Re: Signature models
Similar idea to a light dimmer. The Variac is plugged into the wall, and the amp is plugged into the Variac. It allows you to change the voltage of the power going to the amp. Heres' a pic of one.

The only thing that pissed me off is no low gain input, and the 'beast boost' isn't footswitchable. What the hell? It would have cost Marshall an additional 30 cents to make that feature switchable so you could go from regular 800 crunch to over the top Kerry King distortion. That way you could still roll your volume down on the guitar for a 'clean' tone. With the boost on, thats impossible. |
