Currently, my main amp is a TSL 100- 1960ax with green backs. Ive had the head for 9 yrs into a 1960av with vintage 30s. I find the greenbacks are my preference. Now Im thinking of switching to a 1987x, jtm45, or maybe a jmp50, (probably a master volume). I think any of the 3 would improve my tone, as compared to the TSL 100. Does any one know if a 70's jmp50 is about the same as the 1987x RI, but with a master volume ? whats the difference between the two ?
Also, I'm a little hesitant to go to a single channel amp...however I think it may improve me as player... any thoughts on this ? I just want to get TONE, the TSL seems grainy or fizzy to me the clean channel is great, lead and crunch sux !. Thanx, ddrzaz |

Re: Help 1987x vs jmp
How about a Vintage Modern? They are said to be "modded" JMP45. I have one since 2 weeks and I love it, it was my first Marshall. You´ll need to change the preamp tubes to get it going real good, but that´s no problem, I like the sound of the stock tubes, too. I just wanted to get it a little more vintage, and it definately is! I´ve never had such a good amp since my Boogie Mark II C+ which I love very much.
I´m gonna get a 1987x also though . Maybe next month...these amps are diffrent in some way of course, the 1987x sound a lot like malmsteen if it comes to overdriven rhythm work. It´s not that transparent, but also not that muddy. But you can´t compare that to a TSL or any modern amp.
