DSL 50 Problem ... Effects Loop ?
Troubleshooting help??
I have a MXR EQ and a memory man in my effect loop..... TU-2, Wah, Keeley/Boss SD-1 in front.... Two days ago I was jamming and decided to see what effect the effects loop pad button had on the sound... No big difference.... but 5 minutes later my sound slowly died, (sounded like a battery dying on a pedal).... I checked all the connections and the power snake inputs (no batteries), and nothing fixed the problem. I flupped the power to standby and back on.... it worked fine for another 2 minutes.... then died again.... Next I plugged direct into the amp and pulled the effects loop out.... worked fine... So last night I hooked up all the effects, as they were, but pushed the loop pad button back in and had no problems after 1/2 hour...???? Would the loop level cause this to happen??? Do I have a problem with my Head??? I only have another week left on my 30 day warranty.. If there is an issue I have to find out soon? I guess I should try to duplicate the problem again... Maybe I will take out all the effects in front try to get it to cut out again with the pad button out.. I don't think this will hurt anything??? Does anybody have any experience with this problem? Any suggestions?? thanks, |

Re: DSL 50 Problem ... Effects Loop ?
Hi,
I had this often on my old JCM900 - if I had the setting wrong when I switched on then there would be some loss in volume or something would not be right - mostly I had to switch it off (power cable out) to remedy this. I know this is not right but for some reason it did get confused. The DSL is slightly different but is also sensitive - we had a similar posting here recently - I do not notice much difference (in or out) so I always leave the pad out (for normal instrument levels) and select the 'instrument' imdepence on my fx-unit to match. I know this is the right option so in other words I gave up. Setup everything like I do and it will be ok. Cheers Brett |

Re: DSL 50 Problem ... Effects Loop ?
Another suggestion- if you want to do some testing to be 100% sure the problem is in the FX loop/button, just take a known good patch cable & run it from the send to return in the loop without any pedals/fx. That will also give you a feel for the coloration the loop does to your tone.
I hated the loop in my DSL 100, it was very noisy and sucked tone; had Voodoo swap out the chip in the loop and it is like night & day difference, almost no noise, and the tone now sounds unchanged. |

Do you have any info on the chip Voodoo put in? Was it stock or an upgrade?

Re: DSL 50 Problem ... Effects Loop ?
I am definitely going to try that patch cable suggestion....
I played tonight but only on the original set up - I didn't try to reproduce the problem again with the level button out... working fine... |
