So, I'm wanting to get a MIDI footswitch(something like a Roland fc-200) but I'm currently using a Marshall MG100HDFX head on a 4x12 cab. I love this amp, I don't want to complain about it, but I hate that I can only switch between clean and distorted and add effects. Hence, I want a MIDI controller. But when I was looking into the specifics it came to my attention that I wouldn't be able to use a MIDI controller on my current system. So I ask the following questions.
1) is there any way to actually get gear that would work in similar ways as a MIDI controller(if not just a controller itself) that would work for my MG100HDFX? and 2) what would be a good, price efficient substitute for my MG100HDFX that is MIDI compatible? |

Re: Mg100hdfx midi
You can buy some gear that will plug into the 1/4" footswitch jack on your amp that will be able to control the amp the same as the amps footswitch.
Alot of people use the GCX with their Mesa amps this way. From that unit you can plug in a midi controller. For example ( extreme overkill for your scenario) but a voodoo labs ground control audio switcher and ground control pro would work. This is $400 each. To be honest though, you would be better off upgrading the amp even though I love both of the products that I listed above. What is your budget for the substitute. To be honest from what I have seen, most amps under the 500-$600 mark dont have midi except for some preamps. |
