Hi. I have an AVT150HX and 1960A. Connecting these is no problem as I can just plug the 4ohm out into the 4ohm in on the cab.
However today I purchased the matching 1960B cab and can't figure out how to connect them all. The out on the back of the head has an 8ohm and an 8/4ohm which im guessing is 4 when only one output is connected and 8 when 2 are. It also has a minimum of 4ohms it says on the back. The cabs as you are probably all well aware can either be mono with 4ohms or 16 ohms or 8ohms stereo. I want to run both cabs on mono to have all 8 speakers working. How should I link them all up? Would it damage the head or the speakers to plug both cabs in mono? I read that it mainly damages the valves in the head but mine is mostly solidstate (valve preamp). PLEASE HELP!!! |

Re: Stack help! Please!!!
unfortunately the user manual says nothing about
16 ohms cabs, but the output jacks are parallelly wired so when you use the 16 ohms jacks of the 2 cabs you have an overall load of 8 ohms and should be(!) safe. but NEVER just plug out one cab and use only one cabinet with the head. you must then change to the 4ohms jack

Re: Stack help! Please!!!
Hi,
( I started writing this and then 'jtm-series player' answered faster - and now I understand why 16 ohm was not mentioned - I do have no experience with an AVT150HX - so I have edited this just to be a general help rather than delete it all...) Normal Setup :- The 1960x cabs are 16 ohm mono, 8 or 4 Ohm in stereo. The ohms always need to match as follows: MONO :- 1 x 4x12 = If you use one cab then you need 16 ohm on the amp and 16 ohm socket on the cab with its switch set to mono. MONO :- 2 x 4x12 = If you use two cabs then you need 8 ohm on the amp and you use both 16 ohm sockets on the 2 cabs with both their switch's set to mono. ----------------------------------------------------- STEREO setup (both sides)= the cabs can be switched so you have two pairs of speakers - 2 left and 2 right. (note - you set the switch to STEREO but it does not make your amp stereo...). So now the total ohm values drops by half so each side is now 8 ohms. You need 8 ohm on the amp and 8 ohm on both 8 ohm sockets with the cab switch set to stereo. STEREO setup (one side)= like above but you only want one side - a big box for just 2 speakers LoL.. So now the total ohm value drops by another 50%. You need 4 ohm on the amp and you use the 4 ohm socket with the cab switch set to stereo. I personally would not use this option. Cheers Brett |
