Pushing a 1987x

Is it at all possible to push this thing into JCM 800 territory? Or should I just forget about it.

Don't ask me why. It's too long of a story. And I'm too pissed off about it.

Re: Pushing a 1987x

Hi,

sort of...

This amp breaks up beautifully at high volume - it has that early Van Halen 'Running with the Devil sound' but that also depends on the guitar. You can also sound like Ritchie Blackmore if you have a Strat, but it does not sound like a JCM900. For that you need a preamp or a Guvnor pedal - and then some stretch of the imagination.

With a Guvnor pedal this is pure Yngwie Malmsteen and not like Gary Moore in those early wild days.

Cheers Brett

Re: Pushing a 1987x

I've always hankered after an '87X
According to Doyle they're based on the 1972 era 50 watt which he thought was distortion heaven.
I'd try distortion pedal of your choice , a good EQ pedal , and maybe a booster.
Thats with the amp already sizzling of course.
it's a classic rock amp rather than a metal amp methinks. Probably suit me
Good luck.... hope you get YOUR sound

Re: Pushing a 1987x

Okay, I'll be taking it for a test drive. I've cleared bringing in the Hot Plate and I'll bring in my TS808. I'll bring in my Alexi with the Duncan Blackouts. They have a SG with the 498T already in the store. So the thing will get a good test run. Now if they had a MXR Distortion + ..... Hmmmm.... if this gets close with the TS808, maybe a Zakk Wylde OD pedal would add the can of Aquanet?

I'll put it side by side with the H&K Switchblade that they have. Gotta call in a few minutes to make sure they have the dummy bring in the footswitch he forgot to transfer from Yakima last week. The amp is stuck in "boost mode" and needs the footswitch to disengage it.
