Marshall Jubilee 2555 vs. Marshall JCM 800

I am going to buy a marshall half stack, and I play mostly hard rock/and a little metal (mostly metallica). I have seen that the Jubilee is a little more expensive but is better. Is this true? Which is more versatile, better lead tones, clean tones, etc. I play mostly guns n roses, AC DC, etc. Which is better?

IMO the Jube is the one to get. both are legendary and give different tools, but the Jube is so much better equipped, and rather rare. In 5 years when the time comes to consider the one that got away, the price of used JCM 800 Reissues will drop, the opposite will occur with Jubilees. Choose wisely.

The Jubilee isn't better. Its different. You'd have to try each one out to see which one you prefer.

not better per se, though they are better for higher gain and clarity (lead tones)... they are certainly better equipped, though w. 2 channels rhythm clip option, power scaling, FX loop and line out to slave other amps. All that doesn't matter if the 800 is the sound you're after.

No - its not power scaling. The 25w mode is just using the pentode in triode mode.

I tend to bastardize the term, but unlike the JCM 900 which usually sits on full power all the time, the 25/50 series has an interesting texture in triode mode as well.

The half power switch is useless, it takes away all that's great about the amp.

Also, the 2555 isn't a very good 2 channel amp, but it is the greatest lead guitar amp ever made. IMHO.

maybe it's different on the 50 watt. I can definitely get a good sound out of it on triode mode.

What are the different sounds? like which is more rock/metal/blues. Also which famous person uses the JCM or Jubilee, that way I can see their tones. Also, which is more versatile?

Slash, Joe Bonamassa, John Fruscente (however you spell it) and black crows all got into Jubilees. Literally tons got into 2203s because they were the workhorse of the 80s: zakk wylde, slayer, most hair metal and a ton of 80s metal.

Joe Bonamassa:

Steve Morse used one in the past, but now he has a signature amp with Engl.
He sounded alot better then than he does now.

Re: Marshall Jubilee 2555 vs. Marshall JCM 800

If you are only looking at the JCM 800 2203/4 vs. the 2555/2550 then it really becomes an issue of what YOUR ear likes. Back in the 80's I had a 2204 full stack and when the Jubilee series first came out I had the opportunity to have the pick of the litter as all the models were at my local shop. I HATED THEM!!!! The gain was too fizzy and the "channels" were pointless compared to a 2205/2210. They LOOKED great! The silver was just so incredibly cool but the tone left me with a sour taste. Soon after the 900 series came out and I was on my way to Mesa/Boogie.

I have since played a few more 2555/2550 heads and have found a little love for them but I have also realized that it is up to each person's ear. Some fellas, make those thing sing and it is the GREATEST amp in the world to them. To others I sometimes think it is more of a want for collecting/bragging rights. And for me, I have tossed around getting one off and on and I still may but it is not on the top of my list.
