REO Speedwagon's Dave Amato playing my rig (R8 and DSL 100 1960AV)

Long story.... but last Friday (5-27-11) I warmed up for REO Speedwagon.

After our warm up set we hauled our gear to a local bar to play another show..... and REO Speedwagon showed up there later and played a couple songs on our equipment.

So here's a clip of the great Dave Amato playing my R8 through my DSL 100 1960AV halfstack. You can see me on the side of the stage trying to take pics with my cell phone.

And..... here's a couple of clips from earlier in the night at the concert when we were doing our warm up set. Also my R8 and DSL 100 1960AV:

Re: REO Speedwagon's Dave Amato playing my rig (R8 and DSL 100 1960AV)

Do you now feel that you can somehow magically harness his playing ability because his sweat and epithelials have made contact with your "R8"???? Did you lick the neck afterward, maybe behind the stage in the dark?

Did he also twiddle the knobs of your amp? Did his thigh rub against your cord??

I would have told him to get his own ****ing gear

If they are heroes of yours or politely asking to which you were happy to oblige, awesome!

Otherwise, I'm with shredless.

I let people use my stuff if they ask nicely, musician to musician, never thru intermediaries or managers. I've used plenty of borrowed backlines.

Nice R8, by the way!

Wow some really shitty comments. Dave Amato is a super nice guy had the chance to meet him a few months ago. Dcooper its really cool that such a great guitarist played through your rig. Still sounded like Dave Amato though. Dave is truly underrated as a player. He is also a huge gear head and a big marshall advocate.

Yeah he's a really cool guy and he loves Les Pauls and Marshalls.

He had awesome tone at the concert earlier that night:

Here's some more pics from that night.... including Kevin Cronin playing my '52 AVRI Tele

Me saying to Dave Amato "I hope you don't mind playing an R8 Les Paul...."

Harmonizing!!!

My tobacco R8 almost looks like a Bourbon Burst in the right light!

Great post dcoop !
Not that familiar with Speedwagon but they cant be all that bad if they use quality gear. R8 + DSL sounded absolutely teriffic.
Your band was good as well !

Super stuff! Neat post.

Hey nice playing yourself, never mind the Speedwagon.... your band is good.

Shredless is nothing on this forum, you just occasionally get a whiff of him on a thread like shit on a shoe.... his opinion is worth nothing except to himself.

Ignore the single hater if you can and keep rocking that band.

Re: REO Speedwagon's Dave Amato playing my rig (R8 and DSL 100 1960AV)

Dave and the other guys are cool, kind and gracious. I have the pleasure of knowing Dave pretty well as I'm best friends with one of his best friends. When he's here in MA playing or visiting family we get together. He really does appreciate good gear and good people. Frequently he'll go out to relax and check out bands and be invited to play with them. Not only is he a good guitar player but has awesome vocals. He's the guy singing all of the high harmonies with REO as well as Girls,Girls,Girls and the rest of the album with Motley Crue and David Lee Roth Sky Scraper. When he went to L.A. in 1980 he got to know the right people by backing big names vocally.

You can be sure that he appreciated using your excellent rig. It was very cool of you to be cool.

Dude that's awesome!

I'd have no problem letting someone who's obviously in the know use my gear. It's the local shit kickers i'm not real inclined to let play my gear. Especialy wasted but, I'll be damned if that's not cool, lol.
