Re: did HOT TUBES try out a VM yet?
What's not your fist choice the purple or 2466?
Trust me the purple is very under stated and unless you look at it under direct lighting it's not even that noticeable. Also fwiw, the girls around here think it's smoking hot.

A couple of Slash Jubilee's on ebay. They're pricey though, around 2K.

Re: did HOT TUBES try out a VM yet?
UPDATE :" VINTAGE MODERN "
So my plans were to go to the music store on saturday and work over a vintage modern head and cab , and give all fine folks on this forum my 2 cents about this amp , i did not get to listen to the amp , because " THEY SOLD IT " , they unpacked it on tuesday and it was gone saturday a.m. , i got there at 3:30 all exited and juiced up to go toe to toe with this amp , and its gone . like a kid on christmas morning coming down from his bedroom to see no presents under the tree . and they had to beg and pleed with there suppliers to get this one in , so it looks like i might have to wait a little bit longer to hear the sweet tones of a marshall vintage modern. if there is one thing i might say about the vintage modern even without hearing it ..... it must have sounded good for somone to have snapped it up that quick ,.... in its most regal looking purple wrapper , there goes another happy customer. more to come on my quest to hear the mashall vintage modern |

Re: did HOT TUBES try out a VM yet?
Sorry to hear about that my friend. Yep, they fly off the shelves around here too.
When I went to test drive them (2466/2266/JVM410) I hit the 'perfect storm' of new arrivals as they had sold them all out a few days before when I was originally scheduled to test drive them. We've bought tens of thousands of dollars worth of gear over the years from this one shop so they finally felt enough heat after we sat down with their GM to 'splain the situation. I got lucky in that sense. Keep us posted hot tubes!

Just buy one. Put one on hold and if you don't like it return it.
You will like it though.

Re: did HOT TUBES try out a VM yet?
Sadly, the Live.com refund won't work on that particular eBay item, steelhorse, since it can't be purchased with Buy It Now.

Re: did HOT TUBES try out a VM yet?
The Long & McQuade in Vancouver has piles of VMs and JVMs. Why is it so hard to find one where you are?

Re: did HOT TUBES try out a VM yet?
steelhorse,
Man your passion for the VM has me salivating thinking about getting one myself. I know tone is a difficult thing to explain and is very subjective, but I ask that you answer a few questions for me and hopefully others. I own a TSL601. Try and describe how the VM sounds better than my amp. Is the vintage stage voiced more like a JTM-45 because it uses KT-66 tubes? Do you have a wide range of distortion and is it less compressed than the 601at higher gain settings with the modern stage? If I were to purchase a 2266 head, what cabinet and speakers would you recommend? I prefer a 2 X 12. My amp has a Celestion G12T-75 which I like a lot. It is very clear with punchy bottom end. Obviously, with a 2 X 12, I wouldn't need speakers with such a high power rating. What tubes do you recommend? I replaced my tubes with Tung Sol EL34-B's and 12AX7's. Do you like the JJ's from eurotubes more? I know you have addressed many of these issues in other threads, but they are scattered about and it would take a while to hunt them all down. Finally, I plan to purchase a 1974X or 2061X next year. Do you think linking either of these with the VM would work? I love the sweet sound of the vintage hand wired amps, but to get serious gain, a pedal out front is required. I thought running them together, I could probably get good saturation without the need for a pedal. The hand wired amps are loud, so to push them hard enough to get the power tube gain may require an attenuator which I already have. I don't need excruciating gain. I am more of a classic rock gain person. Thanks in advance. By the way. I know where there is a brand new 2266 head right now for $1000. |
