Re: Any SL-X love ?

Hi,

I watched Uli Jon Roth and Smashing pumpkins singer doing their reality teevee show on emteevee... they stopped at a famous concert hall (Fillemore hall?) an Uli talked about seeing Hendrix there - he then played thru his SLX on the stage - he sounded good. He obviously has one - I have not seen one for years... Enjoy yours!

Cheers Brett

Re: Any SL-X love ?

I have one Shawn. Not sure what the production numbers are but here's a few links to check out.

We should have done a deal for my SLX (re-tubed with JJ E34L's) and your JVM had I known you were looking for one...

Marshall JCM900 SL-X Master Volume Amp

JCM900 SL-X Tone Settings

As things stand however, I'm probably going to keep it because imo it's worth more to me than most people are willing to give for it.

Oh well, sucks to be me!

Re: Any SL-X love ?

I have two of them! My Twins! One of the most versatile amps of it's time. It goes from Super Clean to Classic Crunch to Nuclear Fusion all in one box! You can read all over this forum about guys wanting to use stomp boxes to overdrive their Marshalls (even the newest amps). That's how you loose all all of your crunch!!! No need with this amp! It has an extra pre amp tube that gives it all of the gain and distortion that you would ever want. No Need For Stomps!!! It actually tightens up at higher volumes to give you a signature Marshall tone. This amp won't do you wrong. Congradulations!

Re: Any SL-X love ?

He said he had it retubed and bias before hitting the studio with 6l6's, will any 6l6's work or does it have to be 6l6gc's ? he said it had 6l6s when he got it, anything i should look for when it arrives ?
I've read there is a subtle difference between some 6l6's and 5881's.

The original plan was to get a 2203 KK but it got sold out from under me, might have been a good thing since i scored this SL-X and picked up some things I really needed instead, tubes for my other amps..bias rite..etc
I will be out $870 total for the SL-X to get to me..looking on ebay and craigslist that seems like the going price for one right now $800-$1000 + shipping.
I've heard nothing but great things about the SL-X's over the years so I took the plunge.
how do you like the EL34's in her?

Re: Any SL-X love ?

I don't have EL-34's in mine. I have E-34L's and it's the high gain kit of JJ from Euro and it sounds great.

Looks like yours may have been originally designed for 5881's so if that's the case 6L6's would work fine.

Re: Any SL-X love ?

Hi,

I have the sneaky suspicion that a SLX is the basis DSL without the deep & shift & channel features. After the JCM900 they had to re-think with 2x gain valves - well fine with me!

ps.I hate Kiss - Piss is a better word - I would try a SLX but the thought that they used them would drive me insane/away... The worst most overrated group in the world. I know very few Kiss fans but those I know are at the lowest end of the Darwin scale...

Kiss Brett

Re: Any SL-X love ?

Well actually aren't all amps based off of another amp?

I hate KISS but I respect KISS commercial success and a few of their songs and a few of their players, no doubt kick ass. When I think KISS I think Ace and the dude can rock.

In spite of all of this I may not like KISS but I sure love my SLX!

Hey Blackmore.. I like Kiss, specifically Ace.
I have an electrical engineering degree, that takes a little of bit of brain power to obtain. So, not all Kiss fans are on the low end of the Darwin scale... I bet you're a real winner.

Re: Any SL-X love ?

I'm the same STEELHORSE, not the biggest fan of KISS , but i have to respect the
impact these guys had on the music bizz , lets get real , these guys had there own comic book about the band in 1977(aprox.) thats flippin cool man !! say what you want
about them , at one point they were the biggest band on the planet .........FACT.
GENE and ACE the only one's worth talking about , in 1998 i seen ACE live , and your
right the man can still ROCK ! when i seen him then he and his other guitarist were both
using LANEY heads and cabs , sounded pretty darn good to me .............IMO.

Yeah that comment about the low end was way out of line.

I know several fans who are very successful in their careers and they know I despise KISS but we still manage to get along

What's was even funnier is when I got the SLX THEY didn't even know KISS had used them!

I made bets with several of them about it and needless to say I got a few beers and meals out of the deal

I don't think you over reacted at all luekemyer fwiw, I think the original comment from the other poster about KISS fans was though, but no biggie, some other fans might think Marshall guys are a bunch of neanderthals!

Hi,

c'mon lighten up a little guys - you don't need to bash me because I think something is good or evil - or think someone is low on the Darwin scale - ha! Did I really say that? That was quite good for me... LoL.

I don't like Kiss and the fans I know look really stupid in Kiss masks as they are all nearly 40 years old... ever seen drunken 40 yr olds in Kiss masks?

I also dislike ProgRock bands - boring - and their fan base is supposedly highly intelligent and yet...

I also dislike Hip Hop...

I also dislike Country music...

But I can still drink a beer with anyone - despite music tastes - no stress - Peace

Love brett

ha funny I was thinking of suggesting the same thing to you! (lighten up)

I dislike a lot of things and certain fans but I'm already lightened up enough not to bash em

I pretty much like all music though. I may not buy all of it, or go to hip hop things or country western whatchamacallems, but I I like pretty much all of it.

As for beer? MMMMMMMMM BEEEEERRRRR

I have always thought that the 900 series was very thing sounding compared to all the others. I for one have never played the sl-x though. I have heard the other 900's from friends that I hung out with. They did sound a lot better live. Anyway... about the sl-x, whats the deal on the tubes do they come stock with el34? Another thing people argue about is whether or not the sl-x models are diobe(sp?) or all tube. What the truth on SL-X?

more photos!
